immobiliser light on

Featured Replies

i was given a 95 1.3 felicia a while back,it was stolen (nearly) and recovered.

i've replaced the damaged parts-column,rack,steering wheel, stalks and ignition lock.none of the wiring was damaged just disconnected and ive got it to the point where it starts, runs and drives with no problem.

HOWEVER when i take the key out of the ignition the centre warning light on the dash lights up red (handbrake?).

is this because the immobiliser was disconnnected? and can i sort it myself or do i need a dealer?

hi felxi, this issue is unlikey to be related to the immobilizer, if the immo was on you wouldnt be able to run the car for more than 2 seconds without it cutting out. in my opnion its more likely to be the ignition switch has been wired incorrectly, possibly the permament and switched live feeds have been crossed, this would be the first place i would look because its not possible for that warning light to be on with the key removed from the igniton if its wired right.. or possibly the switch itself is failing, its not uncommon for the switch to go, the contacts get a bit lazy and pulling the key out doesnt release it back to its 'off' setting
