vRS TFSI coil pack change or something else?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Yesterday I noticed that my petrol vRS was running strangely (only on 3 cylinders for sure - easy to hear) and the engine light came one. VCDS show random misfire along with cylinder 2 misfire. 4 hours later nothing was wrong and during the evening it was there again – same errors according to VCDS.

Are these the symptoms of a coil pack change (I know it is a TFSI weakness)? From where do I count the cylinders if I want to replace the coil pack on cylinder 2?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Again

A quick update. Replacing the coil pack did the job (fortunately a friend of mine had a spare). But why did I have to change it? Well, apparently the coils are far from water proof (not at all in fact), so some water found its way to the spark plug, when I did "spring cleaning" with the hood open. Actually I am surprised how much water was in that cavity - 1cm is my guess.

Hope this can help someone else.

Thanks for posting your fix

Another reason not to steam clean engine bays.

Hi Again

My car is from 06 - does it qualify for free coil packs?

Don't know if it is because it happened on April the 1st, but actually I ended up with replacing 3(!!) coil packs (which made me change the remaining one also just in case).

I bought them at 200DKK (£22) so it wasn't too expensive, but still frustrating!

So remember this if you want to clean your engine...
