weird problem! car pulls to left but steering wheel turns right?!

Featured Replies

bit of a tricky one this. I can't think what it could be.

last Monday I replaced my clutch and fitted a smf.

then Thursday I got my tracking done (I removed the front subframe so the steering rack went back slightly a drift of where it was) anyway. I noticed today that when I'm cruising at 60-70 everything is spot on. feels lovely. until I go to over take someone, I put my foot down ad the car pulls to the left however the steering wheel turns right?!

te car does torque steer tote right slightly but its only at Lower speeds,

car specs:

mk1 fabia vrs

Revo stage 1 map

pipercross cone filter

techniclutch smf + clutch

spax RSX coilovers

standard alloys wrapped in falken 452's (juat been rebalanced)

powerflex console/wishbone bushes

powerflex arb bushes

superpro dog mount bush

I made sure I torqued then re torqued all nuts and bolts

has anyone got any ideas? I'm at a loss with this one.

nope, brakes straight and true, what was your thoughts if it didnt?

Faulty rear console bushes had a customers car that did exactly the same thing at work replaced bushes spot on

ill have a check, theyre only 5000 miles old! powerflex ones too. thanks for your suggestion, i'll go look

Hope it helps mate part from that its a wierd 1 mate

I would have said bushes as well.

I've had a case where matching tyres fitted at the same time turned out to be from two different batches, this caused a car that had just had the tracking done and was perfect at low speed to pull at high speed. I rotated the tyres front to rear and it solved it, unlikely but just a thought?

From your description sounds like engine mounts are loose or damaged. I would get extra person to "try rock our engine with hand brake" and you look for any movement on engine. If you notice play bigger then 1-2cm then you found your problem. Check all mounts because its hard to diagnose which one is faulty the internet.

If you dont know how to "rock it", then pull h/b and let your friend to drive off with open bonnet. You just need to put some torque on engine to see it moving. Try in 1st and reverse.

I did notice the mounts were a little dodgy when I wa changing my clutch, when I took the dog bone Mount off I noticed the engine rocked really badly. obviously it's going to rock but in my opinion far to easily, a sign maybe?

how much are engine mounts?

what upgrade options is there?

Check your console bushes and more importantly the bold that holds the wishbone on ;) same thing happened to mine and that's what I found :)
