OBDII Bluetooth and VCDS

Featured Replies

So I was wondering If the ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII adapter which a few of us have procured and are using with Torque, is capable of succuessfully communicating with VAG COM / VCDS.

I am mainly interested in changing the XDS setting. I gave it a try last night and the adapter was recognised at first. However when I entered the control module it kept communicating at different adresses until I interrupted it since the laptop battery was dying out.

So does anybody know If it can work like that or am I losing my time with the BT adapter?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure if it would but to be honest I think I'd rather use a cable just incase the BT connection died while amending part of the ECU.

Wouldn't want a bricked ECU

Fair point... Although I stream music from this BT adapter on my pc to a BT headshet all the time without problems but you never know when it will be your lucky moment...

Fair point but look at it this way, if the connection drops from your PC to your headset all you do is lose sound.

If the connection drops from the ECU while make amendments you have the possibility of bricking the ECU and a costly trip to the dealers.

Yes I agree. I have not made up my mind yet but I suspect the dealer would be very reluctant to do smt like this (I have a feeling they are not as familiar/easy with tweaking stuff for customers as some UK dealerships) and I wanted to know If it would be possible at all. Plus I don't know of any VCDS specialists around here that I could take my car to so then you start taking second looks at your BT OBDII adapter sitting in the glovebox......

You can buy VCDS for about £250.00 I think, sometimes the official cables are sold on here in the classifieds for a little cheaper, would this be a viable solution ?

Could be an option If I could justify such a purchase. It's not that I will start tweaking stuff as a hobby even If I buy it.

It's just this XDS setting that sounds a really nice modification to the car's handling. But If it's going to cost 250, then I think a set of springs would offer a greater improvement in that area! :D

dealers should be able todo this i had a VW garage look at mine but as the had to put it through as a polo gti it didnt work with the brake assist/XDS but it worked for a few other things so theres no reason a skoda garage shouldnt do it :)
