buying VRS Est (part 2)

Featured Replies

first i like to say thanks to all who replied to "best colour for VRS estate" that i posted yesterday

after spending most of the day reading brochures , seeing what options are available and getting quotes , i accidently went on to the used section on the skoda website, and came across some good prices (well i think they may be) on VRS estates that have some kit but costing less then the best prices i got quoted ...

there are some up for £19k & 20k which even with the extras fitted seem more then they were new especially when surely they would have had the VAT off when new, but then as mentioned some had xenons or/and leather and other extras for the same price as new ones ...

so (and im guessing this will open a can of worms) is it best to go for new (i know there isnt better then buying a car that was built for you/or you are the only one who has driven it, and also if i have it on finanace low apr) or a used one that has a fair bit of kit on it but a good price (but apr may nit be as low and of course not sure if Miss Daisey has driven it or the Stig ...)

If you can stomach the depreciation then there is nothing better than getting a brand new car built to you exact spec, you'll rarely find a used one that totally meets your requirements.

Go for a new one and enjoy.

Depends how flush you are I suppose and if the big depreciation in the first year does not bother you...

Motorpoint always seem to have a selection of VRS`s in at greatly reduced prices.... most are less than a year old (Currently 2 estates in , silver and R blue)

Choice is limited mind so you need to be lucky with colour and spec, but if you want a practically new car for thousands less then have a look.

Mind you buying new with 20% off that really does remove the problem of the deprecation esp in the first year, if you are going to keep the car for 3 years say its better to by a new one than used as the APR will be lower in most cases if you are doing it all through skoda.

If you want to spend less than what a new skoda costs from a dealer, then you have many fine examples of ex-demo cars to choose from. I nearly bought a used one and it worked out cheaper to get a new one, with the free servicing as well it was win win.

Go to www.drivethedeal.com and avoid the first years worth of depreciation. Thats what i did.

Go for a low mileage demonstrator and it shouldn't be too bad.

VRS estate is only from £17035 on DriveTheDeal.

I would get a new one, in the spec i want rather than a ragged Demo for more money.

Now, see, you call my pride and joy a 'ragged demo'!!

They don't let just anyone drive them out on test and they'll have the sales person with them.

Then, if it's a DSG, the gearbox won't allow a thrashing to take place.

Mine only had 1800 mls on the clock and nearly £8000 worth of extra kit all for less than I could have bought it new!

I've done this with my last 3 cars and had not one issue but I do choose carefully and really do my homework.

I looked at the likes of Drive-the deal and for that kind of price you don't get anything other than standard spec.

Of course everyone has the choice and I'm just not prepared any more to take the depreciation hit of new.

you can add options to the drive the deal price, hence me saying from.

I couldn't get anywhere near drive the deal with dealers on up to 6month old cars, one of which was a ltd edition pre facelift.

I ordered from drive the deal, chose what I wanted all for over £4k less than the best deal I could get at a dealer.

How do you get £8k of options? Is that even possible on an octy?

fwiw some of the salesmen are the worst people to let drive cars. I know a few and some of the horror stories!

There's no denying that the likes of 'Drive-the-deal' type companies offer a very good price deal and I know people have had an excellent experience buying through them.

I just look for those 'extras' that cost so much for the ordinary man to pay for and which dealers sometimes put on their demos. After all, how much damage can be done to a car of this supposed calibre in 1800 miles under the watchful eye of a salesperson. (Again I agree, you need to choose not only the car carefully but know which sales exec has had it also).

Check out the list of options on mine and add them up.

At least I've been happy with all my "raggy" demos to date. I'll let you know after I've had this one a while.
