Earthing point for amp in Furby

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just want to check that the earth point I have chosen for my amp is correct.

I have found what appears to be an already in use earth point just below the left rear speaker (when looking into the boot), which has two brown wires already bolted in position. I'm pretty sure this is a good point to earth my cable... but can someone please confirm. I've attached a (very poor camera phone) picture below which shows the two brown wires and my black earth.

Thanks,

Mate, I can't see anything in that piccie.

For me, I've used one of the mount for the rear lights, which seem OK. I was scared of using one of the mounts for the speaker trim as there was an awful lot of plastic... As a last resort I shall drill and self tap into the chassis itself, under the boot floor.

I gotta get me a decent camera :D

Thanks for the advice though... The point I'm talking about doesn't have any plastic around it - just two brown wires with ring connectors. Think it will be OK, but want to be sure...

I used the mount on the rear lights initially, but it meant the earth lead being on display... I ended up using the mounting point under the speaker - this was suggested by my local dealer...

Stimps,

Is this the one behind the carpet with two brown wires going to it and topped off with a 10mm nut - just underneath the speaker?

The best place I can think of is where the rear seat belts are bolted into at the base of the seats.

A very good "quality" earthing point.

I wouldn't use the light cluster one. Not that good - as you say, lots of plastic and not a good chassis connection.

What he said. I too use the seat bolts, it's something like a 10 or 12mm bolt straight into the bodyshell so provides a very hefty earthing point, plus it's under the carpet that's under the seat, so completely out of sight. Result!

Seat bolts .... are mostly used by "ICE professionals" as earth point too.

Yup. spot on that, also keeps the earth lead nice and short which is good. Remember to use the same gauge as the supply wire.

On my fabia, it had the earths from the speakers attached, and was surrounded by a plastic "crown" which helped to keep the cables tidy (they slotted into it and were held in place).
