Odd PCD question

Featured Replies

Hi all, serial lurker since Jan 2011, first post here (and a novice in general with cars).

Sick of the steel wheels on my S spec and found some alloys I liked the look of on eBay. 16x6J, ET49, centre bore is larger (but presume this could have been fixed with spigot rings). The real sticking point was that the seller gave a PCD of 5x112 and I thought it odd as every other website listing specs for 5 stud Astra wheels state PCD 5x110. I asked the seller to confirm and he now believes they're 5x110. At this point, I think I should look elsewhere, but here's the intriguing part. The guy is also selling genuine GM steels which he used as winter wheels, they're stamped 5x112 and he says they fit his Astra fine. He suggested that if his 5x112 steels fit his Astra, the 5x110 alloys might fit my Octy. I'm not a big fan of 'close enough' and I'm sure a bodge job like this would create warranty issues in the event of trouble.

I did a forum search and sure enough, someone has already asked this question, with the predictable response, 5x110 is not 5x112:

I can't account for the eBay seller's steel wheels, is 2 mm close enough that he can just jam them on? Surely this would damage the wheel or the threads? On the other hand I don't see how genuine GM steels would have a different PCD. I must be missing something!

In the meantime, I'll keep looking for second hand VAG alloys.

IMO eBay + doubt = avoid.

You know they are the wrong wheels and if you're after someone to confirm your suspicions sure you'll get lots on here willing to oblige :)

+1

If in doubt, walk away, plenty of other suitable wheels on ePray.

You're right, probably not worth the risk. I'm still curious how 'off' the fit would be between 5x112 and 5x110, it's only 2 mm.....wonder if it involves a hammer :giggle:

Typical with ebay, you find something you like and it turns out to be pants. After sifting through all the reeeeally shiny chrome on ebay, there's not a great deal of 6J left. I'd like to stay as close to OEM as possible, so I'm prepared to wait.
