Binding rear brakes

Featured Replies

A few days with the new black car has resulted in me hearing a intermittent squeaking from the rear end.

A closer inspection shows that the rear brakes are binding.

How would one go about fixing that?

Spring helpers for a vw sharran will help keep them off properly when driving it hold the handbrake mech back properly. There about a fiver from vw the part numbers are on here somewhere

+1 Just do a search on Sharan springs or the like, there's loads of info on it such as fitting etc. :)

What they said

Just had 30k service, and was informed rear brakes were 90% worn and needed replacing. I too have heard a slight squeak from them periodically.

Having never changed the fronts from new, would this be a sign of rear brake binding, or is this the norm?

Never had to change rears b4 front on any previous car!

If so, are these spring you speak of an easy home DIY job?

I fitted the springs to the rear brakes last week. Takes 60seconds for each side, and with my 1.9tdi there was no need to even jack up the car.

Just clamber underneath, locate the holes and push one end of the spring in, and then squeeze the spring and push the other end in. Litterally 60seconds each side and you're done

Not the best pic but you get the idea.

Not really, but it is a spring fitted back to front - it should really get fitted facing forwards so that it does not get caught in anything - which it could do sticking out like that!
