just changed drivers front abs sensor - what a PITA that was!

Featured Replies

got hold of a genuine Febi-Bilstein part for < £20 so happy with that.

then while TRYING to remove the caliper carrier to get the disk outa the way brock two sockets  (there goes the saving!)

Ended up just moving the disk out at an angle and then had to bash the old sensor to bits, literally using a chisel. Split it into three pieces then spent almost 20mins dodging the rain and sanding the hole to get the new one in. Cleared codes and ABS is back online :D (definately not a good idea to ignore things like this as I managed to lock up wheels when a car pulled in front of me at a roundabout the other day)

They are a bar-steward aren't they? I remember doing one on a mates VRS (is it any different on the 4x4?) and it wouldn't come out from the back even with the bolts/screws removed... it took us a good half an hour of attacking it from the front to get it out!

Changing the ABS sensor ring is even worse IIRC it's welded to the bearing carrier in the hub so that all has to come apart :(

I just went at it with a screwdriver and hammer first to start splitting it then a small cold chisel made from aircraft engine rods :D

broke it up till it fell out then the hardest part was ceaning up the hole.

would have been easier if I could have got the disk out of the way.

Next on the list is to change the Haldex oil and filter as they havent been done in 60K
