I already have a coolant cap, how much just for the oil cap bud, cheers.

A notice for those who want to change.

If the caps are identically build like the R8 caps, you can rotate the upper part if it points the wrong direction.

You will have to take the cap appart, a bit fiddely but if working with patience it can be done.

Originally my oil cap was 90° turned and the coolant cap 180°.

Another notice, the inner part of the coolant cap can be removed and exchanged with the original inner part.

This part is the pressure valve in case of overheating.

My audi mechanic pointed me on this, saying the original R8 cap can have different pressure before it opens and this could

harm the engine if it opens too late (overheating).

So I took out the R8 valve and replaced it with my original valve, just to be on the safe side.

How easy do the coolant sensors swap over ??

Am i right guessing you will tell if you need to swap it cos the temp will go up ???

I didnt notice any changes to the temperature (checked with the torque app, not the original gauge).

But after my mechanic told me that there can be differences, I swapped them.

It is not the coolant sensor, it is the relieve valve that sits inside the coolant cap.

If you look into the cap you will notice the black round thingy that is hold by plastic clips in the cap.

Just carefully lever it out and do the same with the original cap. Change the valves and just snap them in.

The cap can be pointing the wrong direction in different vehicles. The R8 cap, for example, points in the wrong

direction on the older 1.9 TDI, the 1.8 TFSI, the 2.0 TDI and my 3.0 TDI.

As is the coolant cap in your pictures (90° turned).

As far as I remember, you will have to make a slight modification on the inside of one of the caps. If you have a cutter knife,

it is no big deal. The other cap (I think it was the oil cap) can be taken appart and turned on its base.

Yeah oil sits fine and put pics showing coolant, everyone is fine with it in pics

Is this the valve, looks easy to pop out , if heat it abit so clips arnt brittle

ec46e326.jpg

So nothing different in oil cap , it sits correct already

a6e764df.jpg

That said my oil cap is a trimsport chrome so could be based on any lol

That is exactly the valve that can be changed. Just put the cap in hot water, wait a while and it will be easier to pop out.

Afternoon all.

I'm Scott, I'm Lloyds mate that's organising theses caps for your selves and the other forums.

I thought I'd join up to help with the information that Magic62 has given you.

The Oil and Coolant caps fit the correct way round and no modifications are needed for them to fit.

If you want the coolant cap lanes to be the same as the oil cap, just turn it 90 degrees so its in line. You can take a knife to it but I don't see the point cause you'll only want them to face the same way when you pop the bonnet and when you do that you might as well turn the cap.

As for the pressure release valve in the middle of the coolant cap, yes this can be removed and swap with your standard unit but there has been no evidence of this being needed.

I've ran both caps for over 1000 miles with no issues and the caps have been fitted to different cars with no reports of over heating or not reaching temperature.

The oil cap is solid, there is no way to turn it around to face the way that it doesn't need to face.

I hope that answers your questions.

If not, please ask and I'll answer the best I can.

If you want any more pictures of theses caps fitted to other VAG cars, just ask and I'll get what I can.

Hi Scott

I didnt want to make a wave, just told what my mechanic told me. Had the coolant cap on my 3.0 already on for more than 20k miles and had no issues.

But I just wanted to be on the safe side.

Normally the car will not overheat, but under certain conditions if the temperature rises to high, a too high pressure could ruin the head gasket (for example).

Not saying it will, just didnt want to make that experience myself.

The oil cap of the R8 looks solid too, but it isnt. There is an upper and lower part. I had my cap on different engines and it didnt always point in the right direction.

Just trying to help with the experience I made.

Cheers

Mike

Hey :D i know you

To put a random thought too

My pressure valve on my octy is the same part number as our 2.0 tdi seat altea (pd140)

The number coolant valve cap number is

3B0 121 321 :D iirc and can read it rite

Same on both, same as the part numbers on the oil caps match

That's fair enough.

I know the R8 cap needs some modifying and it can sit a bit high on some models.

Its a nice looking cap but has put, for lack of a better word, the fear in to people about buying other caps.

I think we (being all vag) is luck that the Porsche caps sit the same way and not some funky R8 way.

I was also worried about the valve in the coolant cap at first and swapped it over but after a day I put it back to standard and ran it as is with out any issues and the first bunch of Audi owners have not reported any issues.

Lloyd, that part number looks like it fits almost every car with in the Audi, Skoda, seat and VW range. The oldest being a 1997 LT 4x4, a marine engine and even a late RS4.

I think you'd be fine.

Can we thumbs up a mk1 fabia vrs then ?

The oil cap from a 2000 Fabia is also listed on 258 other cars with in Audi, VW, Skoda and Seat.

That includes all the skoda range from 1995 onwards.

I hope that helps.

Did you see my above post?

Did you see my above post?

I did miss that one. Sorry.

Oil and coolant caps are the same price.
