power loss

Featured Replies

hi there, got a few bits changed including disks so took my octavia for a little drive to bed the disks in. car was fine initially and i gave it a bit in second and third, not foot to the floor and car was fine. When i turned around and tried it there was nothing, car had no power and drive and just drifted to a halt where it idled very lumpy and then cut out and it started then cut out again. i left it about 30 secs to 1 min then started and it was fine again, working as normal so took it very easy home and noticed a bit of mayo like substance under the oil cap, i know this is normal in the 1.8t but i think the coolant is looking a bit brown too and along with these symptoms points towards the head gasket on the way out. Any oppinions and help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you losing coolant?

HG's don't go very often on the 1.8T.

The coolant can look brown if it hasn't been changed in ages, from sediment and crap in the radiator etc.

I would get it fault code scanned, whatever caused it to stop like that should have thrown up a fault code. What did they do to the car apart from changing discs? They might have left a vac hose off or something which has caused the problem.

If you're worried about HG problems then a garage can do a test to see if there's exhaust gasses in the coolant, or compression test the cylinders.

think its gonna be a visit to the garage for fault code checking then, fingers crossed the head gaskets not gone!
