Working in Ireland

Featured Replies

Right, popped over to Dublin for 6weeks work and I was wondering if I can get good quality fuel,as 97/98 or 99 ron unleaded over here and if so, where?!?!

Really your struggling? I want to take mine over to visit the family soon and I was under the impression it would be available there. Have you tried posting in the Ireland meets section?

Supposedly Maxol do a 98ron Unleaded, but Im yet to see a service station in dublin with more than a diesel and standard unleaded pump! Will post in the ireland meets and see what pops up!

You probably be pushed to find anything other than 95 due to most people using diesel over there. When I was back over visiting family up the north, I was filling up my fabia 1.2 tsi over the border and every petrol station only had regular

Did a bit of digging on this. Apparently in the Republic super has been phased out due to lack of demand and some sort of tax. I wonder what all the turbo jap cars that are over there are running on nowadays?

Especially when diesel is cheaper than petrol as well. Plus whole of Ireland is predominately rural with only a few large cities compared to the uk so that's the reason why diesel vehicles are popular both sides of the border and petrol( or should they be called diesel stations) will only stock regular rather than super as its just not worthwhile stocking it for an occasional sale. The ones I was using I think I was the only petrol car. The bloke was about to fill it up with diesel, so also be careful of that when over there as alot of petrol stations, they fill it up for you

I popped to Tesco in Dublin thinking i might be able to get some 99ron momentum, but no no, just 'super unleaded' (95Ron), damn it! Guess my Fab is going to be coughing and spluttering for a 6 weeks.

Will running 95ron affect/damage anything as ive been running 98 since she was delivered, 8 months ago.

Also read that high octance unleaded started to disappear once the big R started.

http://www.maxol.ie/...0can%20use%20E5?

found this link for you-apparently Maxol unleaded e5 is rated at 99 but contains 5% bioethanol. dont know if that is useful for you

Looks like you could be onto a winner there!

I live in the north but do a lot of work around the border area, so pop over alot to fill up... As it use to be about 20% cheaper... I have never seen anything other than standard petrol or diesel. As I now run a GL2 it's worth my while to fill up over the border, being 18p/l cheaper than the local maxol & texaco... No such thing as optimax here..... I will say that I've found no difference between normal derv in the republic & the Bp ultimate up north.... The republics derv is far cleaner IMHO.

Your cars ecu should adjust after the first few miles.
