Fraying of seat fabric

Featured Replies

After eight months of driving (since brand new) I have noticed that the fabric on the drivers side seat is fraying .I dont drive that much, the car has done less than 10000 kms (about 6000 miles only). The seat is beginning to look a little shabby, and I purchased a seat cover to make sure the fraying stops. This is the first time ever I have had such a problem,I dont recall it happening in any car I owned in the past.I do not wear any abrasive trousers, maybe a pair of well worn jeans from time to time.Has anyone else noticed this problem? It is hard for me to imagine it happens only in my Yeti.I have not seen any mention of this in this forum.

That can't be normal, when you say fraying is the stitching coming loose or is the actual material getting thin? Either way it's not acceptable, I would take it back to the dealer.

The material is getting thin.

I have found that if you have any velcro on your clothes this can happen....

But it's still unacceptable. The seat fabric should "last the life of the car", so I suggest hot footing it back to the dealer for a warranty claim as it sounds as though the material is not fit for the intended purpose (ie sitting on without wearing out!). The earlier you report it, the more likely you are to have it rectified - and I suggest turning up without the seat covers on as the dealer might just possibly claim (unreasonably) it's the covers that are inflicting the damage.

Now there's an Idea, Velcro seats, Velcro trousers = no need for seat belts

I take it you have the 'Dune' interior seat fabric :wonder: This is not availble here in the UK, as our importer opted for standard leather seat coverings for the Experiance/Elegance trim level. As others have advised I would get it checked under warranty if your concerned.

I'd be off to the dealer too. IMO this is the one noticeable area where skoda save a few ££ compared to the more expensive marques in the group - the seat upholstery. I looked over a Tiguan last weekend and the leather was far superior to the leather in my Yeti and ive had wear on skoda cloth seats previously at an earlier than expected mileage.

The cloth seats on Dewi have now "suffered" for 40k miles and other than a few dirty marks there is no sign of wear on them.

I had the reverse on my Roomster! There was a line of stitching across the seat in the lumbar area and it abraded any clothing. :S

Yes plumber, you are right.I do have the 'Dune" seat fabric, you are lucky your importer opted for standard leather seat!

If you want to blow some cash on the problem Superskoda now make leather seat covers for the Yeti

Around the £600 mark I think--anyone got them yet?
