Powerflex bushes?

Featured Replies

Hi

Thinking of buying the powerflex bush kit off larkspeed for the whole front end of my VRS, just wondering if anybody is running the same and have had any problems etc?

also just incase people are wondering its this package

Cheers

I recently replaced the whole wishbone/ball joint and both sets of bushes on both sides, on my 12 y/o car the front wishbone bushes were still serviceable, it's the rear wishbone or console bush that fails along with the ARB bushes. If you're doing it just because you can then fair enough, it makes sense while everything's appart but if you're doing it because you think it'll improve things in some way I doubt you'll notice much difference between a console bush being done and both being done. Also check the ARB diameter as from memory 3 different versions exist though i'm not sure how many were fitted to the VRS.

Either way have a look at the technical Guides forum for a step by step guide :)

Hi

Running a Fabia SDi I was, previous to switching to PowerFlex, changing the console bushes every 6,000-8,000 miles. Aside from the weakness within the design itself, I'm told the added weight of the diesel engine and the poor state of the roads speeds up the degradation of the standard bushes.

Since switching to PowerFlex the car is now approaching its second MOT and has covered some 30,000 miles (114,000 total). Aside from the console bushes, I additionally have had replaced the anti-roll bar bushes..... don't mention the ARB drop links. In the event that the rear bushes require to be replaced at some point I would not hesitate to again fit PowerFlex.

I would agree that you may not see a performance advantage but I would expect an improvement in terms of the lifecycle of the bushes themselves. Even if the PowerFlex bushes only lasted twice as long, the change would make economic sense.

Well they need doing, as the standard ones didn't last very long at all, so thought id upgrade to something that lasts a bit longer and something a bit better!

Don't get me wrong i'm all in favour of PF console bushes, they're a doddle to install and make a lot of sense hence why when I did the work on my own car that's what I fitted, my point was that the front bushes rarely if ever seem to fail so based on this I didn't bother and saved a few quid, but if you're going to do the lot it's easier to do them all at the same time and then not have to worry about them again. Lifetime warranty = :)

Another reason why i went for them, just put of curiosity, doyou know what size anti roll bar bush the fabia takes? Mines a 53 plate if that helps?

recently put a full set of polybushes on my vrs 53 reg with 165,000 on it, car is now a lot tighter and well worth the money..

ive ordered them so should be here in a couple of days :)

pig of a job getting the old ones out!! getting the new ones in is easy though!!

Ive replaced my front end with PF bushes too. feels do much tighter, toddle to fit, I just took a jack saw through the old bush, well just through the outer plastic sleeve then it tapped out with a hammer! use lots of lube to put the PF bush in though, and I found using a ratchet strap when fitting the wishbone made the job easier

Also check the ARB diameter as from memory 3 different versions exist though i'm not sure how many were fitted to the VRS.

Pretty sure the vrs is a 19mm arb :)

Josh, I have ordered the same set of powerflex bushes from Larkspeed and got an email from Robert today about the size of the anti roll bar bushes, can you confirm 19mm is correct as posted by Benjiman? I have a 2005 VRS

Yeah i ordered the 19mm one, got info off a few people here. not fitted yet but got reassured that it is the correct size.

Good price for the kit aint it :)

If your changing the ARB bushes might be worth getting a 21mm ARB from a cupra and fitting that as well.

Your right josh, not even that cheap on ebay, hoping to get them fitted next weekend.

yeah thats the cheapest i could find, very good service as well, arrived next day!

Iv just brought some console bushes, I have had the car 18 months and have replaces both console bushes 2 times each now (car does 20k a year) and hopefully this will be the last bush change I make here for a few years! In time I will look at a full PF bush set up however I will probably replace the bushes as they fail instead of going all out at once. A nice bonus is should you flip your car / have it on a ramp to inspect It there will be some pretty colours instead if boring old black!!
