1999 Octavia 1.6 SR

Featured Replies

Hello good people of briskoda.net,

I'm a noob with car maintenence.

I have a 1999 Octavia 1.6 SR. It's just a normal and unmodified and I'm not a car enthusiast like you guys.

Just wonder if I can do too much harm by ordering fitting the wrong spark leads on this car.

And also how to identify the engine type so I can try and avoid any problems with wrong parts and get the exact parts I need.

Is there some label on the engine with the info I need where should I look?

My octavia has "1.6 SR" on engine cover so I got this info from wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia....%A0koda_Octavia

so my engine might be one of these...

1.6 I4 55kW (AEE)

1.6 I4 74kW (AEH/AKL)

1.6 I4 75kW (AVU/BFQ)

Other info if youre interested...

So anyway I have had this problem before with a '97 Ford Escort before

The car is running rough lately and I hope it's as simple as replacing the spark leads.

The engine seems to lose power when I put the foot down.

I imagine that the insulation on leads is breaking down perhaps.

As I write this I'm thinking I could try cleaning and brushing the contacts first.

If you've still got the service booklet there should be a sticker in the front of it with lots of three letter codes... the one on the top left is your engine code. The sticker might also be in the boot as well under the carpet. Some of the engines have a little barcode sticker on the cambelt cover as well. Once you've got the engine code I would order the right set of OEM leads from a dealer or from TPS.
