Wiring phone charger direct into VRS MK1? Need advice

Featured Replies

I have a holder for my phone and seeing as the cigarette lighter is so far back from the dash I would like to wire my sony xperia ray charging cable direct into wherever I can get a 12v circuit on the car. I was hoping there might be an electrical savvy person on this forum, OR someone who has installed a charging cable in this way who could help me or advise?

I'm ok with wiring etc, I just don`t know where the best place is on this car to get a 12v feed that is relatively close to the dash. I would like it to look as tidy as possible so I don`t want wires hanging around everywhere. My holder clips into the vent to the left of the steering wheel, so it would probably be best to have the charging cable come out somewhere near the left side of the steering column or around that area, so that I can stow the cable away out of sight if I want.

Cheers,

Samuel

You can wire it up to the fuse box at the drivers side, that's how the taxi company i work for wire up our chargers for our PDA's in the taxis. Problem is they won't let us know how it's done, they charged £25.

As above. Get your multimeter out and find a suitable fuse that gets 12v with the ignition on and then use a grounding point somewhere. I will let you know how I get on as I'm doing this on mine soon (same fuse box I believe).

I just used the switched live to the radio. I fitted an inline fuse holder as well.

Thank you all for the help. Is that 447 a 12v connection? Could I literally take the + straight from that to my charger ? Looks to be the easiest to access.

tap a feed into the back of the radio?
