Skoda Felicia 1.3Mpi 1999 won't start

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and was wondering if any of you knowledgeable members might be able to help with my problem. My wife has been given this car by a friend who has lost patience with it after many new parts and recent reconditioned gearbox. The latest problem was that the engine kept stopping for no reason ( the last time on the M62 at 60+ mph). I have done a diagnostics test and there were 5 faults listed :-

00525-135 Oxygen sensor sporadic signal - too low

00537-141 Lambda regulation - sporadic lower stop value

17978-163 Engine start blocked by immobilizer p1570

00522-030 Engine coolant temperature sensor - open/short circuit to positive

00513-155 Engine speed sensor(G28) - sporadic implausible signal

I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor and I don't think the Lambda sensor faults would stop it starting. The immobiliser issue was caused by me (I think) useing the wrong key. I have also replaced the speed sensor( hall sensor). After doing all this I cleared all fault codes from the ECU and tried to start the car again, but no luck. On going back into the ECU diagnostics I am now only getting :-

00513-155 Engine speed sensor(G28) - sporadic implausible signal

Has anyone any idea as to what I can try next?

Many thanks in anticipation

John

I think the key to this is the word sporadic.. it means exactly what it says.. There is probably a loose connector or a dirty or corroded plug somewhere or possibly one of of the earth terminals in the engine bay is flapping about in the breeze.

Well you have replaced what I would have thought the cause would be. Often when replacing the gearbox/clutch etc the speed sensor (hall) can get damaged. This happened to me and had the same problem. New speed sensor and it fired straight up.

Does it just not start at all or start and run for a couple of seconds?

Hi philje123

It does not show any sign of starting , just turns over as normal. The old speed sensor was damaged thats why I replaced it, but still no joy.

Thanks TeflonTom, I will check the wiring and see if I get any results.

might be worth checking the condition of the wiring at the block connectors for the speed sensor and the lamba sensor....i had an elusive misfire/erratic tickover issue that i finally tracked down to two wires from the lamba that LOOKED ok, but upon closer inspection were actually snapped at the connector. - best of luck getting it sorted-

try what tom said as i had this problem after i steam cleaned my 1.3 lump it got water in the plug for speed sensor and would not start if there is any corron it will probbley be a greene colour

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have had a good look at the wiring today. I found that there was no connection to the positive terminal on the hall sensor unless you wiggled the wire. So I gave the wire a good pull and it broke, the wires inside the cable had snapped but the insulation was still ok. After stripping back the insulation on both ends of the broken wire and soldering them back together all is now ok. She's running sweet as a nut.

John.
