licence plate bulbs not working

Featured Replies

Hi, i just failed MOT on licence plate bulbs not working. i replaced them. no joy. I then checked all the fuses, which were all (and i mean all lol) in order. I had another check of the wiring going in to the bulbs which all looked ok (im no electrician). no wear and tear apart from one bit that looked a bit bodged. I unwrapped the masking/electrical tape to check the connections underneath that were ok, which they were. just to double check that wasnt the problem i stripped back the wire and connected the copper (or what ever it is) to fresh copper from the other wire and this didnt change a thing.

There is a plug that is hanging loose and i spent a good 30 minutes looking for something to plug it into and couldnt find anything. in a last ditch attempt i plugged that into one of the sockets that one of the bulbs is connected to. Still no joy.

Before i pick up the phone and call a electrician i just want to check that it isnt something a fresh pair of eyes couldnt easily spot so i put a little 2 minute video up on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtrnOpUcTiQ&context=C4baac17ADvjVQa1PpcFNNctcymZcr73GxJdsimI2rhJu7I5p0KLU=

Thanks

Have you checked with a multimeter that you have a good earth for the bulbs?

The number plate lights have their own fuse (F4) so double check it with a meter.

The feed for the lights is grey/green all the way back to the fuse. There's a brown connector in the lid and a pink connector on the left 'C' pillar.

I found a lot of corrosion in my number plate light units, so much so that the bulbs were crap.

With new bulbs, tidied up connections, and some silicon grease it works well now. Try new bulbs.
