Electric Windows swapping over?

Featured Replies

This has only happened once, but is it common?

I drove to Essex on Sunday and at the Dartford Tunnel I put my window down and pressed the button for drivers window, the passenger window went down

Thought I was going mad so during Tunnel, I tried it a few times and yes the switches had swapped themselves over.

I had a go today and they are back to normal, does this happen from time to time? Or is my car a freak? (Except for being beige)

And just to be sure, the drivers window switch is on the right isn't it? And passenger on the left?

yep mine did it once, turn off the engine and all will be back to normal! :D

At least it's not just mine then. Thanks.

Yep very common problem on the Fabia due to it using a (CAN?)Bus to minimise the number of wires. As Mike said, just switch ignition on and off and it will reset itself. Only had it once on mine and both front and rears switched sides!

Chris

I've had it swap over, AND turned the car off and on again and still been the wrong way round. I think it needs a good period of time off, like overnight, to reset itself. Its a little amusing when it happens though, especially the :o :O :o when you have a passenger and put their window down, not your own.

"STILL a Skoda" is normally the retort. :D

I must remember to use the search function. At the bottom of my screen, its already listed. Doh, sorry.

It's engine off, key out, open door, close door, lock & unlock car (with fob), key back in, start engine then the windows go back to normal for me. One of them must reset the CAN bus so it gets unconfused.

The vRS is worse in this respect than the old Y reg TDi I had which only did it twice - lost count on the vRS!

Never happened to me - perhaps you've got a fault?
Never happened to me

It will ;)

Chris

Its happened to me as well, I was changing the headunit and thought I had broken the wiring/ecu :D

Must have been the same with my stereo which got its left and right speakers confused (only noticeable when doing the balance) This mysteriously resolved itself too :)

This happened a couple of times on my last fabia and once iirc on the new one but it was a while ago.

I've been told that this is caused by a faulty central convenience ECU

Had it happen to me a couple of times on the polo I had before the fabia, so it is not just a Skoda thing.

it happend when it was thunder and lightning once , and once i locked the car and i went back to it, the windows were wide open...any one could have jumped in

spooky. think its a job for derek acura from mose haunted!

This happened to my fabia yesterday. Turning ignition off and on again didn't fix it. However, turning the ignition off, opening the drivers door, getting out, locking and alarming the car and then reversing that process did fix it.

Is it a sign that the convenience unit is going to go bang in the future (and cost a f'in fortune) or is it just a nice little software blip?
