Power Problem??

Featured Replies

Hiya Guys,

My Vrs has just started to lose power and makes a strange "Whirring" noise as the turbo kicks in. This gets louder as the revs progress, also quite noticable loss of power. Almost as if has developed a leak?? You can really hear it??

Any one out there any ideas of possible causes?

Many, Many Thanks.

Please dont say the turbo is goosed!!! :thumbdwn:

Cheers

Tim

Could just be a boost leak from the piping...have you got VAG-COM?

Tim, I've got Vag-Com and a cable but a fooked laptop :thumbdwn:

I'd say turbo, sorry. Lack of oil on turbo bearing or damaged fins.

Before it goes get it checked out or you will be looking at an exhaust full of oil, not good.

Des, I managed to get a full back system done under "Warranty" Because the tailpipe had tarnished!!

So I will be popping in tomorrow to see what they say it is ??

Here fella, no harm in asking.

If it is the turbo (hope not :( ) i've got one going spare.

Des,

What sort of stuff are we gonna see on vagcom if the turbos blown, any idea?

TBH can't remember/not sure. No real sensors on the turbo for VAG-COM to pick up. Once it's gone bang it's pretty obvious really, white smoke etc.

Oh well, soon see!

Ta.

the turbo on my car got replaced under warranty at about 90k just before i bought it :confuse:

No turbo at all this morn just a unhealthy whirring noise .= Ceased :thumbdwn: turbo .........or possibly a pipe off ??

Will update as and when i get news..

How much is a K04 turbo and a new remap. :D ??????

Cheers

Tim

Could be a loose pipe - turbo spools up, then the "gap" in the pipe causes the secondary "whirring" sound as the air pushed through it increases in speed?

Or someone's nicked your turbo. :D

Rob,

My turbo is still in there. But as ive said the secondry whirring got progressivly louder, and now the turbo has ceased to work. Is it a possibility of lack of oil in there to cause this??

Cheers
