windscreen

Featured Replies

Well just been cleaning my car,and noticed a sort of white-ish line which seems to be spreading along the bottom of the windscreen I would say it is about 1mm to 3mm and goes along the bottom of the windscreen about 75% of it

Its hard to explain but it has a "blooming" look like a pearl white mouldy colour.

Has anybody else on here had this its only 16 month old with 6500 miles on it......just emailed my local skoda dealer but will have to wait for monday for the service dept to read it

Standard equipment on all Octavias, and most modern cars. It is moisture creeping along the plastic layer between the inner and outer glass layers.

From what I've read  here, it's very common on Skodas. It is because they just stick the glass to the window frame. In the past it was surrounded by a rubber surround and either didn't happen or you couldn't see it.

I hear it's a warranty issue? I have it on mine but I prefered not to disturb a working windscreen - there are lots of horror stories about windscreen companies.

Snap.

My '10 plate is doing it too. As FriendlyFire said, its the windscreen delaminating as the polyvinyl butyral interlayer (plastic) absorbs moisture from sitting in water.

I'm debating whether to get my changed or not; once its gone white the adhesion is much lower to the glass, so not good news if it gets hit, but as it's only at the very bottom and well out of the way I'm not sure it's worth the agro...

If you're under warranty I'd argue to get it done under that.

If not I wonder if you're soon to be hit by a largish stone on a country road....

For what it's worth both my 2007 and 2008 Octavia's have this, the delamination gets to a certain point and stops.

Not worth the hassle of removing the original windscreen if you ask me...

My 2006y octy also has it from the first year. I was very close to replace the windscreen under warrenty but decided not to at the last minute. Now I am glad I didnt replace it as I dont think replaced glass can be fitted as factory one and dellamination is not progressing:)

if this has gone on for a while on past and present octys then I wonder why skoda have not done anything about it?

Only hope who fits it is ok.....but if not then yes it looks like a flying brick "suddenly" hit my windscreen

:giggle:

reading this thread made me check my screen after I cleaned it this morning. I have a very small white patch at the edge under the wipers, will keep an eye on it for now.... thanks for alerting me... :)
