Pd150 turbo leak?

Featured Replies

Firstly just want to appologise for posting this topic in the wrong section let alone wrong forum lol...

A friend of mine owns a mk1 leon pd150 remapped to 182bhp and he believes his turbo is not performing as it should in terms of a possible air leak... This has happend due to an incident on the motorway by where the car at 80mph emitted a pop and a feel of an object being dropped from the car and then the car decelerating into limp mode... When he pulled over he switched the car off then back on and to test the cars performance, gradually accelerated to a considerable speed, but during this time the car was showing a difference in behaviour and an obvious indication that the cars boost was not 100%... Any ideas on what may have happened and what can be done? (the car is still behaving like this)

Oh and some additional information... The car was usually run on fuch oil but after a service there may have been a possibility that differently oil was used and this incident took place a few days after the service... Could this be linked?

Thanks in advance :)

Has he checked all the boost pipes? Sounds as if one could have popped off. Did he mention lots of smoke under acceleration and a wooshing noise?

was there smoke when it popped off ? if its black its boost pipe popped off , if its white grey or blue its more than likely turbo

Hi josh he says there was no black smoke under acceleration or a wooshing noise

That is very odd as even if the turbo was to go, there would be some sort of smoke. Personally i thought that a boost pipe may have just popped off, as this is what happened on my car just last week. The only other thing i could think of is the turbo has gone, but even then you would expect a siren like noise when accelerating and like jamie8954 said, grey or blue coloured smoke. any other symptoms at all?

Umm the only other symptoms i can Think of is when he gives slight acceleration i can hear an air noise from the turbi which is significantly louder then the pressure sound of other tdi's

This could be either, id just have expected smoke in both cases :/ try jacking up and checking out all the pipes to the turbo and intercooler, if they are all fine, sounds like the turbo may have gone :/
