hi

Got 07 octy 1.9.DIESEL

Want to fit drl where plastic covers for fog lights are?

They are 12v,but need to pick up a live feed when ignition is switched on,(of course)

PLEASE TELL

Don't the foglights have an appropriate feed?

If you do a search you should find a thread by pastyboy who fitted drls to his octy, this covers the live feed & switching them off or dimming them if you are keeping your original sidelights.

Most idiots use foglights as 'wannabe' DRLs anyway.

Why not put on your sidelights if you need to tell people you are driving/moving in a car?

Then there will be lights to the rear as well.

If the sun is splitting the pavement you can just switch them off.

And if it is rainy you will at least have something showing to the front and rear.

Unlike those Mercs, Audis, DS3's, RR's, Slkodas etc that are all shiny to those they are following and all poorly lit when they pass.

Do these plonkers not know they have no Dipped beam on in poor visability?

Yes, George, and when conditions require it I put my headlights on!

But for the rest of the time DRL's are pefectly adequate.

Do you spot many cars on rainy or misty days that come up behind you showing lights and then go passed and have nothing showing to the rear?

Almost all the ones this morning that passed me where cars with DRL's only, nowt to the rear in driving rain.

almost everyone else had on Dipped beam and there were obviously a few with Fog Lights to the Front & also to the rear.

A few with Driving/Fogs on no headlights and rear fogs.

There's a difference?!

DRL's use low powered non-focused / angled light, albeit some DRL's do look much brighter than others.

if you have an "auto lights" feature just use that - then they will be on when you required, off when not.

Must say I think these LED DRL's look pretty chavvy

+1

If you can see a car's lights better than the car, you probably need your lights on. If you can see a car better than you can its lights then you probably don't. Simples.

Auto lights do not know when its foggy or when its raining.

People who rely on auto lights and trust them to work when needed are as bad as those that drive in poor visibility with only DRL's.

Well my auto lights know when its raining and I know when its foggy!!! - there are those who drive cars and those who steer cars .

My lights are put on everytime I get in the car, habit from work. However, iv yet to hear a decent argument against it & find people see me quicker/pull out on me less with them on.

Exactly, so you still have to overide the auto function occasionally to ensure you are visible to other road users.

The point I was making is that those who rely on the auto setting often don't realise that the system isn't fool proof and you still have to physically turn on your lights in certain conditions - hence the amount of people driving in the rain with no lights on.

I assume the auto lights on your Mazda are similar to those in on the Octavia in that they are linked to the wipers so when the wipers are on constantly for a set length of time the lights are also turned on.

Totally agree there Swmbo's brother got pulled in thick fog, his excuse? "I thought they came on when needed". Some drivers just don't have common sense anymore lol

I'm normally not a fan of any type of after market lights, but seen a nice set of DRL's on an octy 1 which looked very oem & not chavy, problem is sourcing the correct set & also dotting them in the right place on the bumper.
