Can't open drivers door from outside

Featured Replies

Hi i have a 2002 octavia and i can't open the front door from the outside. The central looking is fine. I have taken the door card off and can see where a hook should attach to the outside handle but there is no hook there.

If i am correct there should be a cable with a hook on the end similar to the one for the latch on the inside of the door but can't find a broken cable.

I hope this makes sense to someone. I could take the passenger door card off to find what i'm looking for but thought i would ask here first. Sorry for crap explanation. Any answers? Cheers

It's called a Bowden cable - try a search for that and it should bring up a few results.

If the cable has come off at both ends then it will have fallen to the bottom of the door.

There is no bowden cable. There is a 40mm cable with a small plastic block moulded onto the end. This clips into the door handle.

Remove the lock barrel and look inside. If you are lucky, the plastic end has unclipped from the handle

Yes rwbaldwin, this sounds like what i'm after, Do i have to remove the handle altogether or can i just buy a part to replace the one that's broken. All that i could see in the bottom of the door was a little hook.

Yes, you can just get the pull wire. The part number should be 1J3837069B but double check against your VIN. Costs less than £4 from a dealer.
