R-tech remap review

Well here's the map

First thoughts oh my god the difference is night and day, especially around 4k rpm, theres a 70bhp difference there over the stock map! Right now im changing at 5.5k which seems to be mind blowingly quick! Seems far quicker than my mates old 225 lcr, maybe its the punchy delivery from the mapped ko3s! Before map i managed a 7.6s to 60 after i managed a 6.3 (in no way scientific but a vast improvement none the less)

Noise has increased from turbo and it sounds nice and raspy (not on the point of exploding i may add)

Forge 007p spring has been changed to a yellow one and it even seems to dump crisper. Mpg is also up around 2-3mpg

Clutch is coping thus far, no smells or slips (on 66k) just wondering if it will cope or be under a bit of strain?

But all in all im mightily impressed, i didnt think after a map alone the difference would be as noticable

Mods are 007p, piperx vis, ths fmic, only thing letting me down is standard dp but tbh i dont even think it needs any more power as it can already light the wheels up no problem right now :o! Plus the map was £250 all in! Can't go wrong in my mind!

Thanks r-tech

Good results there!

Am I mssing something, but is that a before and after power plot at the flywheel or wheels?

Wheels i think?

Top left says power and in brackets is flywheel power

Ahh makes more sense now. Nice one. Cant beat a remap. Very suprising isnt it?

My remap has been on for 5 years and original clutch is fine, 78k on the clock.

Oh its an unbelievable transformation, i would have thought it would have been a bit more spritely but the difference is simply night and day! For £250 theres no better bang for your buck

It's by far the single biggest power difference you can make for the least amount of cash.

Clutch should be ok as long as you treat it kindly. Even with a remap they don't make a huge amount of torque (230-250ft/lb, for comparison a standard Fabia VRS makes 230ft/lb) so the clutch shouldn't be having too much of a hard time.

Did you get the launch control option added?

Did he up your rev limiter? Top guys R-tech :-)

why would you up the rev limit? Surely the ko3s turbo has run out of puff long before u hit the standerd limit?Launch control......why?

Yes rev limiter raised but to me theres no point? It runs out of puff at 5.5k anyways which is what i change at!

No launch control as my left foot and right foot have that sorted :)

I did get the sai and all that other junk mapped out for when i get my act together and remove it!

The torque may not be upto the diesels but it still pulls nicely from low down! Its impressive :)

And it has a rev range. And doesn't sound like a Massey Ferguson.

:)

I honestly cant profess enough how quick it is....

Im shocked

Feels the fastest motor ive owned...

Feels quicker than my old

-focus st

-corolla tsport

-hybrid fabia vrs

I love it :)

Great read, and this soooo makes me want to get my Octy VRS remapped... like, TOMORROW! .......... This is the first petrol VAG I've had and it's nice but doesn't feel like 180hp, as I've been 'tricked' recently by the high torque of a few PD130s that I've had (had a Revo'd TDI130PD in a Bora last).

I do much prefer the 1.8T petrol because, as said above, at last, I have a full rev range to play with..... and also, "off the mark" the 1.8T is lightening fast compared to the PD130 (even when it was Revo'd up to 170hp).

......but I am missing having the fulfillment that any remap gives.

I want one!

You are indeed. Stock as 180bhp isnt very quick but the remap really lights the fuse.

R-Tech got 245bhp out of mine. Its a nice car to drive..

This vRS has 5 long gears, your best taking it near the redline to ensure your on the best part of the powerband, in the next gear.

If you unsure / don't understand or don't understand i'll take you out in mine if your local!

Also my peek hp is @ 6.5k

Well going from my graph that would be completely pointless! My power band is 4-5.5k rpm

Changing at 5.5k brings me bang down to 4k.... Revving to 7k rpm would give me about 150bhp (totally pointless)

To get top end rpm i need to change my downpipe which im not interested in doing, its fast enough as is, my peak bhp is 4,800 i believe, r-tech did say however the fmic was helping it no end!!

What front mount do you have mate?

Yes THS front mount off a golf mk4 gti

Same style as forge being a twin pass but has a 'flip pipe'

How much did it set you back mate?

Got it 2nd hand for £325

New its around £500 i think still cheaper than forge though....

It seems good, rtech said it never went above 36 degrees on the rr whereas they've seen a eurojet smic reaching 90 degrees :o
