Advice regarding front grill

Featured Replies

I get my octavia in a few weeks and am wanting to change the grill from chrome to black, I'm going to buy another grill surround and have it painted.

Just wondering how to remove the grill as i don't have the car yet just wanted to know how difficult it was so as soon as it comes i can fit it?

Im sure i saw a post a while back about it.

The removal process is slightly different for the FL as there are a series of screws along the bottom which hold the grille in place.

If i get chance later i'll take some pics to show what i mean.

Good point. Wasn't sure if the OP was talking 'new new' or 'new to them' :)

If you get some snaps, it might be worth getting Stu to put up some revised info on the FL there for people

I would wrap it in vinyl personally. Removable and would save you buying another grill.

i have a can of plasti-dip to do mine but I never seem to get around to it. Have a look on youtube to see how it works.

Ha , i did yours if i remember

You have my Colour Coded grille surround iirc :p

My apologise the car is 'new new' thanks for the advice and pictures would be great thanks

Yep, plastidip or vinyl. A New grill is £64 as i had to have one when my car was 2 weeks old.....then you have the cost of spraying.

£64 is just the chrome surround iirc.

I bought a complete grille, black insert and badges which cost around £200 with colour coding to the car iirc.

I'll dig out all the costs etc later

Where can I get it? Online preferably.

I'm in Norway, so that's not much help i'm afraid.. :(

No idea what make the vinyl is?

You can do it yourself with 3M vinyl. I did mine on my last vRS (Grille & Foglight Surrounds) myself using 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fibre Vinyl.

You can find it easy enough on eGay just search for 3M Di-Noc.

I have no ideah, I do know it is very expensive, sorry did not notice you were in Norway. I dont think he wants carbon Carl

I see 3M describe a metallic black (in addition to matte / gloss black) in their product card: http://multimedia.3m...duct%20Card.pdf

I understand that the 1080 seruies wrap is thinner and a bit easier to work with than the Di-NOC but that is just what I read - I've not done this myself

PlastiDip gives the same effect as wrapping with a fraction of the effort.

TBH that is what I plan to do and have some in my garage. I also bought their primer and 'gloss top coat' but not sure if I'll need the latter
