Play in Steering rack inner joint(s)

Featured Replies

Apart from failing for the front brake pads (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/236679-2007-vrs-se-front-brakes-sizes/) at my MOT today, i also got the advisory in the topic title. I'm assuming this is not normal, although it doesn't say 'excessive' play! lol!

Until I get the chance to speak to the mechanic who carried out the test, can anyone who's had this before shed some light on what it might be? Or is it one of those things that could be a number of different issues ranging from cheap to expensive :wall:

Thanks

Dave

Im getting mine done this saturday. No idea on cost yet as its getting done at the peugeot garage i work in so will only pay for parts. (head tech said it'll be about 20 quid)

The part your after is called a "inner tie rod" i belive, the head tech at my garage said its a very easy job, just take the boot off, unscrew, replace, fix boot back in place and done really...

I checked my car over myself since im selling it next week and knew the mot was coming up so getting it in tip top shape to sell it! :)

That sounds positive and reassuring, thanks!

I'm worrying that it could be the steering rack?!?!?

Easy fix they are about £20 from Euro Car Parts

You would be right to worry its the rack as the inner tie rod is part of the

steering rack, which can easily be fixed :)

Ah - Ok, I was worrying that it might be a bigger, more expensive job to replace the steering rack (entirely) rather than just a part!

Right, when ordering the part you have a choice of two, dont know which one yours will be though. One was around £9 and one was £18 i think, both looked pretty similar.

Ive never changed one before and it took me about half an hour, really easy staight farward job.

Let me know if your tackling the job yourself and i can point you in the right direction

Cheers, I'm popping into the garage tomorrow anyway, will ask the tester what he found. I might get it done under warranty, but if not I'll be DIYing so will give you a shout!
