I am new to the forum and I am trying to persuade the misses to purchase a Fabia VRS as our 'daily car' but finding it real hard to find a good one for around £5000-£5500 in the south of England.

What is the likelyhood of picking a standard one up with less than 45k miles in preferably black for that price? These are the limits which I have been set. Otherwise it is likely to be another slow polo or similar to replace her 6N which has pretty much died.

While I am on the hunt, what things should I be looking out for when purchasing/test driving?

When do the turbo's usually go?

Any Common Faults?

Also, I cant seem to find many with xenon lights. Cost much to upgrade?

Im back on here after a while but with a fabia vrs instead of the octy vrs.

Does anyone know of anyone with a NS front wing and a bumper in black magic?

I bought it as a project car. Had a knock on the front and im looking at getting it back to its best.

Any help will be appreciated.

There is a 55 plate fabia vrs on eBay with only 69k for £4800. It is in red though not black but trust me black is a pain to keep clean.

I wouldnt at all worry about mileage on the ASZ engines. Being a pd lump they go on forever. They are bullet proof. Ive had many vw diesels and even ill maintained ones run forever and are easy to fix if needed.

Theres also a black 2005 one for 4995 with full service history including timing belt and pump. Thats only 63k .

I am still on the hunt to find a bargain as the misses has pretty much given me the go ahead. I will keep you updated as I am now leaning more towards the LE now

We've gone and done it. A deposit has been put down on number 604/1000. Bought it from a dealer, 45k, Service history, with 3 months warranty for £6250. Only downside is that there is a slight scuff on the rear bumper.

Pick her Fabia VRS se tommorrow at 5:00pm
