Oil Change Advice.

Featured Replies

Afternoon guys,

im looking at getting my oil and oil filter changed tomorrow morning at quikfit for £44.95inc (i could do it myself but cba lol)

Anyways to the point. They said they would be using "Fuchs TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40" is this the right oil to use ?

The only reason i ask is my mate has a VW Gold 1.9TDI 150 and said to me the PD130 engine oil needs to be 505 .01 because there is a possiability it can mess with the camshaft is it ?

I think the "Fuchs TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40" oil is 505.00 on the research ive done.

Is the oil that quikfit will use be ok ?

If its not on that list does that mean dont use ? sorry for being a newbie just dont want to mess up the car lol

It's not a definitive list and I don't know when it was last updated.

If you check this link you will see it's only approved to 502.00 and 505.00 and not 505.01, which is specifically for PD engines. Oil to VW spec 507.00 is also suitable for PD engines.

I wouldn't let them use it, mind you I wouldn't let kwik fit change my oil at all.

me too!!! but out of interest you could always ring Fuchs they're only at Stoke -- Duck :-)

Find a decent local Independent garage to do the work. Have a little search on here maybe and ask about your mates etc. If you dont work on cars yourself having a good mechanic is worth its weight in gold!

Made by Comma from memory so nothing wrong with it but you'd spend less by going to your local TPS and buying Quantum (VW's own oil brand) or going to ECP.

I bet when you get your car back they have done a "free safety inspection" and advised that another 5 jobs need doing.

Every time I try and order from my local tps they refuse as I'm not trade and as such can't have an account. How do you get around that?

And with good reason .

Few years ago, I used to get the job of taking any vehicle needing tyres/exhausts to the nominated place .in this case ,Quikfit, as they were nearest, and I knew ,sort of got to trust the managers, as they'd sorted out a lot of problems with our lease co, as in refusing to repair dodgy tyres/ refused to fit dodgy tyres to spare position etc.

Anyway, i'd discovered that I needed an oil change FAST, and local Skoda places couldn't fit me in for weeks( For personal reasons I had to have car 100% ready ,24/7). Quick chat with manager got me oil change ( deffo to 505.01) with filter at a discount. Problem was that when they ordered the filter ,they missed out the other seals. And it developed an oil leak. Only cured when manager discovered that it needed ALL seals changed . That's when I tumbled to the price - as in old saying - pay peanuts, get monkeys. In my case, I got a manager ( old time mechanic) on the case double quick ,as they might loose a lot of business. I'd suggest a new motto for Quak fat ,and it's not "We'll fix it " .

I just walk into my local TPS or ring up, no issues with not being trade.

How important is the grade? Between 5w30 and 5w40?
