Bosch wipers and cabin filter

Featured Replies

Just fitted a complete (3) Set of Bosch wipers and a Bosch cabin filter to my Greenie...

Fairly simple to swap the blades and although the clips looksimilar but not identical to the Skoda stock fitment, they fit just fine and work great!

I did not realise just how deteriorated the blades had become as it happened slowly over the 2.5 years I have owned the car. I had planned on keeping them in the newer Bosch boxes, in my shed but when I tested the new blades (After cleaning the windows, in order to prevent damaging the new rubber) The difference in the cleaning sweep was astronomical! Needless to say, the old rubber went straight in the bin after that!

I also fitted a new cabin filter and on removing the stock item, it was absolutely filthy on the side the air flows from, somewhat grubby on the other side. Just goes to show how much sh-tuff they hold on to and prevent from getting blown into your lungs!

The removal of the older filter was quite simple... Under the left hand side dash, where your passengers feet go, there is an insulated cover that you gently pop out (Try not to deform it too much as it will then hang down and be in eyesight a little). Then you trace the position of the filter holder, on the right, next to the centre console. The cover that holds the filter has two metallic clips that you simply slide towards each other, to the centre of the cover, then gently pull the cover down and out. It is quite a tight fit... Been designed to only just come out without trouble. Take the old filthy filter from its surround and pop the new one in, taking car to fit it with the airflow arrows in the correct direction. (Refer to the one you are removing and re-fit to match)!

The most difficult part of the job is to get the panel back in the housing, whilst then trying to get the clips back onto the correct locking position, to kep the system fairly airtight. This is only really tricky as you cannot see too well and will most likely be upside down, laying on your back, in the middle of the street trying to push the panel up and slide the clips, all against gravity! Not too hard but fiddely, none the less. I guess after one or twp tries, it becomes easier!

Now all I need to do is give the car a wee run and see if the air is nice and fresh and the glass is nice and clear.

Oh, Nearly forgot... I got all the parts from a website called carparts4less and all the parts I mentioned came in at £34.44 inc. vat and free postage. Euro car parts would have cost closer to £50 for exactly the same parts. (They even use the same ordering system and almost identical website)!

Part list:

Rear wiper, Bosch A330H, @ £7.32

front wipers, Bosch AM21U, @ £10.20 (x2)

pollen filter, Bosch DCF006P @ £6.72

Hope this is of interest to someone here.

The black on the pollen filter might have been the charcoal because you can get none charcoal and charcoal filters charcoal are about £18 none about £8 and they recomend you change the wiper blades once a year after winter

Was most deffinately dust and dirt, not charcoal! I think charcoal will help eliminate a bit of smell but would rather change the filter more often, for hygene and pay less, doing it twice as often. I would have thought Skoda changed it at the last service, too! Cant see them chucking in a double the price element, at least, not without charging through the nose for it!

I am aware of regular blede changes but as with many items, most dealers cover their own backs and suggest you replace something at a certain age, regardless of usage.

You could split a new blade almost immediately and it will need replacing or barely use the car, keping it garaged and clean the glas pror to taking it out and the blades could last years...More likely to perish then lose their "Edge". I usually clean the glass to a good standard and also the blades, so any deteriation would be a little slower than expected but as mentioned, the difference betwen new and old was so much, I just binned the old ones without further consideration. (I often keep the removed items, in case one gets damaged, for short term convenience) I know from experience too, that good quality blades, (Bosch, Piaa). Will almost certainly out perform and outlast cheaper options. I did expect a little more life too from genuine stock fitment, same as a standard battery usually lasts twice the lengh of time as any replacement. I have had Piaa on a Yaris for three years and they still clean up reasonably will but I think they will need replacing by the winter!

Seboni121, did you mean number1forskoda? Their parts, although genuine, are more expensive. I would trust Bosch parts to be at least as good, if not better!

Never used a Bosch filter before, though so I want to see how well it cleans/stops muck penetrating the element. Cant see Bosch supplying an inferior product, to be honest so I think it will be at least as good as a Skoda supplied item, at less cost

Yes sorry number1forskoda, yeah little bit more expensive but you do have to watch out if using non oem for warranty claims, Bosch product I agree are as good or better IMO

Hear you there, thats why I had Skoda fit a genuine clutch, despite being much more expensive!

Out of warranty, I will look around for a better price. The items I mentioned though, are not an issue with regars to warranty claims.
