"V" is the 1st letter of the Town/Factory were Skoda's are Built. RS is a Ford brand so Skoda couldn't call there cars "RS" So they call them vRS :)

I'd love it to stand for 'very Racey Skoda'.

Ford's issue with Skoda using the letters "RS" seems to be limited mainly to the UK market, as the Fabia & Octy are marketed in Ireland (and AFIK most of mainland Europe) as the "RS" rather than vRS.

I read somewhere (maybe even on this site) that the "v" signifies the factory that the RS/vRS models were produced... Verchlabi, or something similar???

You are talking out your RS ;) . Skoda in other countries are still called RS in the brochures, Skoda have made RS models for a number of years pre Octavia. Its only a UK issue with Ford.

Skoda have a number of factory's the main ones...Mladsa Boleslav the main site Fabias and Octavias, Vaciny Superbs, Vrchlabi Octavia RS 4X4 and other special Octavias, but not Fabia RS.

Until recent intro of the Octy 2, the Furby vRS was produced in the same factory as the Octy in Vrchlabi.

It was moved to Mladsa Boleslav with the other Furbies as it had spare capacity.

I read that the v was for the town of Vrchlabi, put on because of Ford uk ( as above) objections.

Dont think you will find any of what you have stated is true other than the Ford issue, where are you getting your facts?

Well to add my 2pennith worth I was told that Ford told Skoda that they couldn't use the RS badge as it was theirs so Skoda put the V in front for Victory as this way they still used the RS signification {i.e fast car} without the legal implications, but again it could just be hearsay, however I'll mention it to Skoda Uk next time I speak to them ;-)

Got the info from my dealer last October, when I went to get parts to get wing mirror replaced. The factories were closed an extra 2 weeks during the summe holiday to retool for the new Octy & moving the Furby, as it was explained that ALL models of the new octy were being built on 1 site, winding down octy 1.

Maybe it was BS from my dealer, he is usually very good ( been a skoday dealer 45 years ) so I trust him.

Spot on ,it was just as the Ford Focus RS was deing developed for launch

v sign to ford

Strange how they don't object to Audi using RS format ?????

The factories always close around the summer period for change of model years. The Octy II was first built at Vrclhabi, along side Octavia I's although now I would believe its at Mlada Boleslav also - Vrclhabi does get used for initial runs, its not a very big plant. Having been there at launch time of the Fabia RS I never saw any Fabia Rs's or ordinary Fabias, Having been around the Plant I would find it hard to believe they could tool an additional line other than the Ocatvia. I will be seeing some Friends from the Factory in July I will confirm where the Fabia RS was developed

yes it does stand for victory but ford where making a fuss of skoda calling there cars rs' this ios because they thought it was theres until skoda uk said they had been using the name rs longer than they (ford) where :P skoda has been using the rs name on there rally cars for years but decided to put the v in front so not to offend (ford) :D

I spoke to someone in Skoda Ireland before and he didn't like it to be referred to as a vRS :D .

Seem to remember it Ford registerd it in the UK in 1972 for the Rallyee Sport performance arm of the dealerships .

For interest my research SKODA used the RS description in 1974/5 with the Skoda 130RS (type 735) 1289cc 140bhp (103kw) at 8500rpm 38 or 62 of the cars were made and had a 4 or 5 speed box

John

See if you can confirm the ltd edition furby while you're there ;):D
