PS2 online. Hows that work?

Featured Replies

Was just adhusting my profile a little and spotted a "enter your PS2 online handle here" section... Now I have a PS2 and I'm on broadband. How do you make the two talk? Can I hook it up to my wirelessly linked laptop to prevent any wires trailing from the lounge to my router up here?

Any easy "how to"s would be ideal.

It depends on which PS2 you have. the old big ones require a network connector box, a broadband connection and an ethernet cable.

The new ones have the network connector built in.

I'm just relaying waht I've read on't t'internet, as I havent been connected yet. I'm waiting for blueyonder to increase their standard bandwidth first. (happening next month I'm told)

I think you have to install some software as well.

I have one of the newer slimline playstation 2's. When I registered mine, they sent me the necessary info for ps2 online and said I needed to use the number in the letter with the activation disk that would follow later. Its now a week or so, and still no disk.

If you're PS2 already has an network card in it you can get a wireless ethernet bridge and go wireless to your ADSL Router.

Be sure to match up the ESSID.

If you have the old ps2 you can get the network adapter from gamestation, and literally nowhere else now. Its being made extinct. When you do get it (if you need that one) you get the disc with it so no worries there.

My brother has a slimline one and it took about a month to receive the disc.

Additionally if you have an old ps2 and get the network adapter you can put a hard disc in it and get some software called HDAdvance. This will allow you to backup your ps2 games onto the Harddisc and run from there with heavily reduced loading times (GT4 does not work though).

Be careful running it over a bridged connection to wireless as obviously some wireless connections are slower than a wired connection...

I bought all this stuff at Xmas from Amazon (about 25 quid I think) and my activation code came in a couple of weeks. I still haven't put it in, so I probably need another one ;) In terms of setup, it's just plug in network adapter to PS/2 and then run the supplied ethernet cable (if it's long enough!) to your ADSL router and it just works...

Chris

I'm almost set now after much hoo-har ing to play GT4 online across our own little VPN.

Can't wait.

Away this weekend, but roll on Monday :D
