I bought the iPhone 4 when it came out in june 2010.

I took it back because of the proximity sensor not working

I took the replacement back as the proximity sensor didn't work on the replacement.

The next replacement the handset speaker didn't work when put to the ear, so that when back.

The next replacement the home button wasn't working properly.

Somewhere along the line I purchased applecare.

I then had about 14 months where it worked fine.

Recently the home button started playing up.

I rang up Applecare and they said I had had 5 iPhone 4 handsets.

They then said we will replace the handset with a brand new iPhone 4S, with 12 months warranty. I had the option of carrying on my existing applecare for another 60 days, or purchasing a new applecare for another 2 years.

So, my phone contract runs out shortly and I have a new model iPhone, so when the new model comes out sometime this year, I can give my wife the new phone 4S, instead of the iPhone 4 I was going to give her, without warranty, with the new phone 4S with probably around 18 moths applecare & I will move on the the latest iPhone, what ever they call it.

To me that is a result.

I'd call having so many faulty handsets a dire result, but hey I'm not an apple fan, what do I know?

'Tis indeed a nice result.

The new Apple iPhone is to be announced at the WWDC (world wide developers conference) and will be released for sale September(ish)

I'm waiting for it too.

I think it would be nice if apple manufactured a handset that worked properly in the first place, or if a dodgy one slipped through the production line the repair process had decent QA on it. It appears on your sample of iPhone 4s that certainly isn't the case.

There again I use a phone from a different camp, so I am bound to be anti-apple and anti their evil itunes bloatware product :-)

Lol, but if you look at what htc are doing they are going down the same route, no memory expansion slot, sealed in battery. I have declined the offer of an htc upgrade for these reasons. If I wanted a phone like that I could pay the extra and get one from apple.

I can take the battery out of my HTC Trophy7, but I guess this phone is a good 12 months old in its design. I did have to void the warranty to perform a memory upgrade form 8gb to 32gb though. Shhhh, don't tell Vodafone though
