Octavia vrs headlights out of alignment

Featured Replies

Hello, so I'm staying overnight at my grand after driving 450 miles from London having picked up my second vrs, it has Xenons but when it started to get dark I noticed the 2 beams height don't line up on the horizontal plane, one beam looks very low compared to the other which seems too high, like they both need re adjusted, probably needs centred left to right also as I'm pretty sure the kick is meant to meet at a focus point between both headlights not separate of each other, getting flashed also as one headlight lights up the oncoming traffic.

Where do I go to get it checked/adjusted, local garage with beam alignment equipment or does it need vag com work, or can I reset it myself by some secret ignition press and hold technique.

Help please these things really wind me up

People alwasy recommend getting it done with a VAGCOM or VCDS unit so as to do the job properly. That way, there is no chance of adjusting the lights outside the range of operation of their auto levelling and steering mechanisms. To be honest though, I tweaked mine when I got the car new for the same reason you stated and I have never had any problems; nor do I expect to have any. I just used a dark flat road and the adjustments whilst small produced amazing results.

Hi Abarth,

I have the xenons on my car and the best way would be to take it in to your dealer and get them to reset the lights using their VAS system as the xenons are self-levelling and have a "zero point" where the lights are set to according to suspension load. I'm not sure if just tweaking them will make much difference using the adjuster on the back, unless someone like Tech1e knows different, and if you get in there quick, I think 6 months is the time limit, then they should do it for free under the warranty.

I bought it private how would warrenty cover it,

Upon further inspection it seems the passenger side optic isn't centred within the headlamp housing so looks like manual adjustment then vcds is needed

Don't adjust your xenon's manually!

The xenon headlights on the Octavia must be put into an 'adjustment' mode first either using VCDS or at a Skoda dealer.

If they are adjusted too much when you start the engine (and they self level) if they then exceed their standard operating parameters you may damage them.

My Octy xenons were too high when I picked it up and I was getting flashed, took it to the dealers and they 'reset' them and all has been fine since.

So it seems like my only option is taking it to my local Skoda dealer here in Inverness, any chance VW would help me out instead, would rather avoid that Arnold Clark garage.
