Does anyone know whether the 'cage' or mounting frame (not the mounting bracket) that holds the early MDI units is available for the later ones that don't?

If so, is there a part number? Its for the '5N0 035 341 B' MDI unit

I'm thinking of mounting the MDI unit in the same location as it would be in the jumbo box, but I don't have the jumbo box. I do have a rectangular storage 'box' in the same location that looks about the right size.

Will it fit here anyway? Like this... (but without the jumbo box / armrest)

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

This would enable me to swap between USB & iPod leads as necessary. If I locate it in the glovebox (or any other location) I can't see a way of being able to do this.

Any help much appreciated - I know people have tried to take the MDI unit out of the cage, but has anyone tried to put one IN?

I think the part number is: 1K0 863 328A - CD Changer Insert.

Has anyone got one going spare, knows the price of a new one or can measure the size of the top of theirs?
