Middle ashtray won't stay closed

Featured Replies

<p>Hello everyone

Just looking for the best route for an iPod cable and was having a nosey at the armrest cubby hole and the ashtray next to the handbrake.  Now the ashtray won't stay closed.  I'd moved it forward to the click point where you can remove the ashtray insert, no force used, nothing sounded or felt like it snapped.

With the cubby box open, I can see a small white plastic lever on the drivers side of the box the ashtray goes into and this little lever moves about 60 degrees, but it's not engaged with the ashtray, although there's a 'shaped' section on the outer drivers side of the ashtray that it looks like it corresponds with.

I can't see an obvious way to get at it to work out what's happened and am now wondering if I'm looking at removing the whole bloody lot just to get at it.

Any ideas short of blu tac/duct tape/velcro/sledgehammer/general sobbing?

You can just see a shaped section next to the lug:

And the little white lever:

Skoda say £58 for a new console unit.

Does anyone know how to remove the rearward centre console without having to start at the front and remove the entire blooming lot?

I've been trying to work it out am completely befuddled.

Very frustrating!

Mine's the same .... won't stay shut. I couldn't work it out either, and nor could my Skoda trained mechanic mate!!

A small cable tie wedged in there keeps it shut for now, but I do miss it.
