Roomster space

Featured Replies

Hi,

I currently have a Mk1 Fabia estate which has been great. My question is, and appologies if this has been covered in other threads, what sort of space advantage is there in the rear of the Roomster compared to the Fabia? I ask only as we currently have a 2 year old daughter and although fine for one I am weighing up options for if/when second child arrives. We have found the rear legroom a little lacking for car seats etc.

Also like the idea of panoramic roof.

What sort of real MPG would a 1.4 tdi 80 get as this is what I've got in my Fab and its a great engine currently at 60k and easily does 70mpg on a run.

Thanks,

Well, as to raw boot space in 'normal' configuration, Fabia II Estate beats out the Roomy for a handful of liters.

But there is no such thing as a 'normal' configuration in a Roomster.

First, the boot opening is high, squared and regular.

Second, the boot space is cubic and regular.

Third, the back doors are big, regular in shape and with a huge opening angle.

Fourth, the back windows are big, very big and panoramic.

Fifth, the three back seats are set higher than the front ones.

Sixth, each of the two outer back seats can shift forwards or backwards.

Seventh, each of them can be flattened against the back of the front ones.

Eight, they can be individually removed, at your pleasure.

Ninth, you can remove the central seat, push the outer ones toward the middle and have a limousine space for two in the back.

Tenth, the roof is so high you will never regret carrying your basketball player friend in your car.

Eleventh....I have no panoramic roof but if you fit it, add it to the rest.

Now just think about fitting car seats, getting your children or your parents-grandparents in and out of the car, carrying prams and bicycles, etc.

See the light, now? :giggle:

Space? In a Roomster? I'm 6'5" and can comfortably sit behind the drivers seat when it is fully back. The rear is not wonderful for 3 adults, due to the centre section being narrow, the smallest adult in my family is my wife at 5'11", but the rest of it, excellent. The rear seat versatility makes up for any short comings, I have only had 3 in the back once, and it coped.

I've got the roof, it is taped shut at the moment as it opens on its own, turning the inside into an oven when parked, (New runners on order under warranty), but it is something I could do without, it doesn't open so no extra fresh air, and I have a reasonable memory span, which means I know what sky looks like. (but I think kids would love it, I'm a grumpy old man).

l had the choice of a fav estate or the roomy . l went for the roomy because of the clever inside / roof bars ( extra room from fitting a roof box )mine is a 2012 ( 61 plate ) SE , TSI 105bhp with a few goodies ( maxi dot / roof bars / front fogs with DRL , love the car . l have had 5 skodas in the past

I have only once driven a Fabia, so I can't tell the difference to that one very well, but we changed a Yeti to a Roomster because the Roomster has more interior space and the kids have a much better view. With 2 boys (aged 3 and 4) I have yet to find something that will not fit in the car, even with the whole family in it.

The only downside - yes, there is a downside to everything - is the length, or rather lack thereof, of the Roomster. This means that you cannot transport any long items (skis etc) inside the car since it is not long enough. On the other hand it means that the car is easy to handle in tiight spaces since it is so short. And the height more than enough makes up for the length.

In my opinion the Roomster is simply the best car for families with 1 or 2 kids, as the rear of the car is really designed around the kids!

I totaly agree with the friends above. And I can assure you that Roomster's interior is way far comfortable than MK1 Octavia's and double far away that MK1 Fabia's I owned.

The amount and versatility of the interior space of the Roomster is amazing for a car which really isn't that long. I often use mine as a van and it's so quick and easy to tip the rear seats forward which also gives you a nice square, and totally flat loading area.

Or families with 3 grandkids. We can get 3 child seats in the Roomy and there is still space in the boot for a dog.

The other thing is you will find it feels just like a Fabia when you drive it as everything in front of the driver is from the Fabia.

And when you shut one of the doors ........ it sounds just like a Golf. :giggle:

Thanks for all your responses. This is what I thought, I will have a look when the time comes to change later this year. I will also have to do my sums as to whether to go diesel or petrol next time as I only do about 8k miles a year.

Thanks

I am quite sure with 8k miles a year a 1.2 TSI 86 or 105 hp will perfectly do.
