****** government has put it up £10 since I bought the car, now £135!! Robbing sons of b!tches!

As if they don't get enough money out of us!

I can understand it going up every now and then but in a £10 jump just annoyed me - probably because i'm in a bad mood - kerbed one of my Dark Chrome Gigaro's (very slight but only mark on the car!!) so feeling like an ogre at the moment!

I think they put up every category by £10 in january

they put car tax up in last budget something like 1% plus the rate of inflation 5.?%

Works van only went up by £5 - just think enough stuff is expensive anyway so they pinch an extra £10 to cover balls ups and line pockets whilst cutting jobs...

no i think we pay for the cars that have no tax :notme:

last tax I paid was £260 for my lcr, so £135 doesn't sound that bad !

My tax on my vRS estate went up by £5 went i got it may 2011 it was £130 and i tax it at the end of april it was £135

I pay £0 a year :p

think if i remember in the budget it will go up every year around £5 to £10 went up from april 30th 2012

£135 for a year is nothing we had a mini before we bought the vrs and that was £235 for the year!!!!!!!

Its not the amount it costs - its the fact they keep putting it up that p's me off!

my tax is only £30 a year :D

I'm happy with £135 as the performance of the car is good. It's a shame it's not spend on fixing roads though.

I think the Gov gets around £25 billion from car and fuel tax each year and complain that about £2 billion gets spent on roads (maintenance plus new bits).

I am waiting for the the A11 near Thetford to be dualled. That has been promised for about 10 years. Recently there has been a 1 year hold on construction. Why? No idea. At a time when we are promised that investment in infrastructure would be given priority I can't understand why Norfolk remains (I think) the only county in England with no dual carriageway road entering the county. It should make a big difference to business, tourism and general travel. At present it remains a potential hazard with long queues forming if there are works on it or minor accidents. Major accidents mean it stays closed for hours about once a week.

Moan over.

I bought a 1.6 Fabia last year because the tax is £20 and it offers excellent fuel consumption. While the tax remains low, the fuel consumption is nothing like advertised. So 1 win and 1 lose. However, it is great to drive. The mid range performance for overtaking is excellent (important on overcrowded country road littered with artics limited to 40). Push the throttle in 3rd at 40 and you pass 60 before you get to the front of the truck. 70 or more can arrive before you have time to change to 4th and settle back. It is a bit worrying lifting off before you get in front of the slower vehicle. Also, the car 'squirms' if the road is anything but smooth and dry. This requires a lot of concentration and could be a problem if tired or distracted. However, I am getting way off topic.

I agree, it took me over two hours to get from Cambridge to Norwich yesterday afternoon; we always seem to get the short end of the stick in this part of the country when it comes to transport funding.

I wish they'd sort out the A47 too, imo it's a far worse road than the A11. Cant see it happening in my lifetime though despite all the promises of EU funding...

It is a sad fact that Tax and death are the only two guarantees in life....

Road tax will creep up year on year as more manufacturers are meeting the emission targets for the lower CO2 cars, government lose money on low emission cars so the goal posts change.

Doesn't make it any easier to pay each year though.

As for fuel economy, I had a spirited drive home from Hereford yesterday on the A49 and a couple of B roads, the car averaged 41 mpg from the 1.4 TFSi VRs this included some high revving overtakes, I like this car!

Oops!

My mental calculatons on the addition cost of fuel from the lower than expected mpg on the diesel Fabia were out by a factor of about 4.5. I used mpg then put in the price of a litre of fuel rather than gallon.

Just a small point. Isn't it time we changed over to quoting fuel consumption as litres per 100 miles (LpCm?) rather than mpg? It's easier to calculate and then convert into cost. My Fafia is doing about 8 LpCm which means the fule cost of 100 miles is 8x£1.45 or about £11

No. This is Britain. The only thing we buy in metric is sugar and cocaine.
