Noob with a fiesta

Featured Replies

a mate of a mate has an 04 1.4 duratec fiesta and knows nothing about cars. his car was making a funny noise so eventually checked the oil and found it below minimum so went down tesco's and bought tesco value petrol motor oil(not joking here btw)

so he ended up just sticking 2ltrs in of 10w=40 when the engine is supposed to 5w-30 in it.

what damage can he have done potentially then?

btw he is an absolute noob, this was the guy that begged for a race as his car would obviously beat mine seeing as it was an estate

He's better putting in a bit of cheap oil rather than running it low , but I'd take it to a local independant garage for a quick oil change just to be on the safe side.

but it was only low and he put 2ltrs in!! the sump only needs 3.5ltrs!!!!

he's a noob, i have just heard horro stories of people puting the wrong oil in zetec engines and wrecking them due to them being very picky

if hes a bit of a nob, tell him a bit of sand mixed in with the oil will thicken it up and make his car quicker! lol :uglyhamme

It not gonna stop just coz he put in 10w/40w!

The oil won't do too much damage. It will smoke for a bit if he has stuck too much in, and Tesco Value oil does not really hold me in confidence with a new car but it should be ok.

I'd offer him that race and bet money on it as it will be the easiest cash you would make.

already showed him what my cars like, entering a bypass from a T junction with lights i just drove the long way round him and accelerated off, didn't speed as there was no point. this was standard too!!

hopefully he will be alright with the oil but the level is currently over an inch above the max mark :o

He might be ok with the oil, but being an inch over the top mark could be asking for trouble.

I'd be worried if i did something that silly,

Too much oil makes the internal pressure of the engine go up, and over revving can put strain on the oil seals cant it?

AIUI - yep - there goes the crank seals and maybe even the cam seals (as appropriate).
