Ohhh finally managed it, so it now has auto lights and the coming home function works perfect with maxidot showing the options - Yipee!

But that was a right paint in the butt.

Thanks to VRStu for the guide that he created back in 08

Its a right pain but the unit is best got out by first removing all the surrounding bottom panel under the steering column. Held in with about 5 torx screws. Once this is out (take the OBD port out of the panel so it is completely out of your way) you will see the box as in the photo above. This is what it looks like when it's dropped down:

Now to release it you need to unclip the front two tabs and then give it a good tug forwards. The front two tabs are located on the side and in the photo in Stus guide you can just see the 4 tab indents on the flats of the sides of the box. The pic gives you some indication of how far away from the front of the box the tabs are (approx 2 inches) because its very hard to get your head underneath to see them, especially the one on the fusebox side as this is very tight against the dashboard fixings.

TBH it's just a case of feeling your way around. Once off the unit drops down a little at the front, and then you can lever it down and forward to release it fully. It will still be tight in there as the wiring into it is complex and quite tight. The plugs that go into the unit have a two way release system, a tab on the bottom and a larger red release tab for each. These again are very hard to see and get to, so good luck. Remember if you are putting a repair wire in to slide the connector out of the actual housing that clips into the unit otherwise they don't locate correct.

Hope that helps in some way

Thanks for the quick response Rob.

I'll add it all to my notes for when the time comes...
