Coil Pack Wiring Loom - easy fit?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Although I have no issues or problems with it just yet, my wiring loom to the coil packs is looking rather ropey, with a number of 'splits' that I've taped up.

I was wondering on two questions ;-

1). How easy is it to fit the coil pack wiring loom? .... it is torrentially raining at the moment, so I can't get to look into the engine bay to see where the loom eminates from. Obviously plugging the plugs onto the coils is easy, but I'm just wondering if things get more complex at the 'business end'.

2). I have a (51) reg 2001 Octavia VRS Mk1, (AUQ 1.8T 180hp engine), can anyone tell me whether I need the "Loom for cars with oil sensor", or the "Loom for cars without oil sensor", from these two ;- (no idea if I have an oil sensor or not :oops!:)

Many thanks for any pointers! :)

Hi

Cant help with loom questions however, when you get it sorted a good mod to protect the wiring is either make / buy a heat shield.

I bought this one one from Audi:-

Part No: 8L9 - 121 - 659.....(Heat Deflector) £23.87 (March of this year)

lol cost me less than half that from a member off here that made a load for other members, looks exactly the same too!

swapped mine and no different lol lots of cracks in outer plastic but no split wires but its done easy enough toowhen your mates a vw master tech lol

Yes I know, still its good news that you have it on, dont know if it prolongs the life of the harness only time will tell I guess.

I think that was me :) Only charged a fiver inc post for materials. Not quite as polished as the Audi ones but hey it was 1/5th of the price!

PS the loom itself is quite a big piece of kit, not just one big multiplug you connect in. It has several individual pins too as well as connectors. Think Awesome GTI wanted 2-3 hours labour as an indicator. Not straightforward unless you just replace part of it.

Thanks mate - that's exactly what I suspected and wanted to know  ... I saw those 'pins' and that's what scared me off a bit! ..... think I will just patch up the current loom as best as possible just now then. :) ... heatshield looks good

I run it all the way back to the ecu and removing the old pins from the ecu pug and inserting the new :-)

And 100% get the Part No: 8L9 - 121 - 659.....(Heat Deflector) posted above

How long did that take, still trying to decide if to replace the lot or cheat and splice it in.
