Alright chaps.

The Mrs is expecting our first, and as we've got two small hatches we've been on the look out for something a bit more practical. We took ourselves to the local Skoda garage today (on the basis that I wanted a look at the Octy vRS ). Anyway, fell in love with it despite it being a facelift model, which I initially thought I didn't like the look of. We had a test drive of the diesel and it was a very different experience to my Clio 172. But actually very enjoyable and I really liked the power delivery.

The Mrs would be predominantly using it, which would be a 7 mile round trip for work and then a trip to Middlesbrough or Blackpool once a month, which is about 150 miles from us in Wakefield. So realistically were looking at 8k miles a year max. So my question is, is getting a diesel worthwhile financially and would doing such short trips for the majority of the time not even be healthy for the car?

Cheers in advance for any advice.

Welcome.

Might depend on how long you intend keeping the car, work out how much your annual, fuel costs will be.

Diesel will probably win imo?

Diesel torque is addictive, I couldn't go back to petrol after 5 diesels in a row.

Well the PCP deal is over 4 years, so I imagine we would either sell it privately or trade it in if its worth more than GFV, after that.

I do like the diesel torque though. A lot.

A quick calculation reveals a £487 a year saving in fuel costs for your mileage in the diesels favour.

Dunno if that helps.

Hi and welcome aboard.

This car was my first Diesel, and I don't regret it, even though I only do about 8000 miles a year. I travel to work which is a 15 mile round trip, and I have had no issues with it. The so called experts recommend not to buy a diesel if you do low mileage, but I don't take any notice. When my car became available it was a too good an opportunity to miss at the price. I get 48 mpg just for running around locally, with a longer journey about once a month. I filled up with Diesel 2 weeks ago and the needle has hardly moved, i fill up once a month. It's a great car and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Enjoy your car.

Thanks mate. That's what I wanted to hear. It's not going to take me much persuasion I can tell.
