Featured Replies

Hi i am new to this site to try and get sum advice on my new fabia,

There is a water coolant problem, it did use to over pressure and over flow everywhere and had to fill the water up , but i flushed the system and unblocked a pipe, now the pressure doesnt happen no way near as bad, ive done a sniff test to see if its the head gasket, ive been told its not, but in the expansion tank the water level keeps going up and down, and throthing up like a bit of foam? Havent got a clue whats going off!

there are only really 2 options....

coolant leak - have a search for coolant in the engine bay. some have had pinholes in the rad etc that have caused these symptoms

head gasket - sniff tests are only reliable if positive (if there was exhaust gas then head gasket must have gone) unfortunately a negative only means they could not detect any gasses - NOT that the head gasket is ok...

after months of checking everything I could and 2 negative sniff tests I finally rulled all other options out and went in to do the head gasket and it had failed :(

failed head gaskets are not that common though so systematicly work around the coolant system first. if you gave the correct G12 coolant then it leaves nice pink stains and even the smallest leak may be noticable (but the coolant spewing out of the expansion bottle wont help as it will have marked up all around that side of the engine)

good luck!
