VRS TDI, about to get booked into Skoda

Featured Replies

Hello all, some of you may know my vrs is soon to get its injectors checked to see if they qualify for a replacement under the recall. While its in I may as well get my cambelt done, I was quoted £320 and another £50 for the water pump, is this a good price?

Is the cambelt best left to Skoda in case something goes wrong, how about an independent garage at a cheaper rate, do you think Skoda would match their price (not rung around yet).

And onto my last question, my interior air supply stink, think stale air. Not all the time it comes and goes, notice it a couple seconds after I wash the windscreen, when it automatically switches to recirculate mode to stop the screen wash smell coming into the cabin and just in general driving, I can't tell if it's the aircon or not because I'm not sure when the aircon is actually on as there isn't a aircon button on the dash.

Skoda want £39.99 to spray some antibacterial chemical through the aircon system, I quizzed them what it does and she said it flushes through the system and cleans all the odour and bacteria out, I then told her I can do that myself for £9.99 with a can from halfords, she said its not the same thing.

Anyone else heard of this service and/or am I going to get ripped off?

Anyone had this problem?

If u know a good independent garage u trust u could get ur cam belt done there.

There is lots of main dealers with sloppy workmanship too. I think the service book stamp is more important to some people tho lol

What year is ur Vrs milage etc?

I know a local garage here does the Seat Leon Cambelt for £300 fitted, with the pump and coolant included.

57 plate with 35k on the clock, only two Skoda stamps in the book so would like to keep the history fully Skoda.

I have known and used my local garage since I started driving 6 years ago, before that my Dad used them, even for his Jags, Range Rovers and Beamers. So I trust them to do the work just depends on the price and of its worth losing the full Skoda history.

Xrayuk, where is this garage?

Manchester, they're VAG specialists, so deal with all VAG parts. I'm a member at seatcupra.net and they have their own subforum on there. £300 was the last quote I saw them give.

Volksmaster is the garage.

I don't think ur in too much of a panic with only 35k on the clock,

I think £370 from a dealer, including pump, coolant and a full belt kit is a good deal.

You get 2 years warranty on parts/labour for the fitted belt, so I'd take them up on it.

yeh £370 seems a good price likes but take the warranty with a pinch of salt, one thing Skoda is good at is **** poor customer service.

Called my local garage and they were wanting £480 all in, I told them they were £100 more expensive than the Skoda garage and if you could match their price I would take the car to you, best he could do was £400 lol.

Looks like I'll be getting Skoda to do the work.

Anyone comment on the aircon problem I raised in my first post?

abarth, the first thing I would try is to change the pollen filter,

Ok I'll get a replacement filter, should I get a charcoal one

get skoda to do the belt and w/pump, fit your own charcoal pollen filter and use a can of halford anti bac, its the same as the skoda stuff but your not paying the skoka tea boy £30 to spray it in your car!
