Fabia vRS Oil Usage - 21,000 miles per litre

Featured Replies

OK - I've conceded my Fabia vRS does use oil after all - but not much!

After diligently checking from around 1,000 miles to now at 5679 miles, I've decided I should at last top up. The level was getting to the bottom of the knurled section of the dipstick.

I've put in 270ml of oil (using the level gauge on the side of the official VAG oil) and that's taken the level on the dipstick to somewhat above what it was when I started checking the oil at 1000 miles.

Hence assuming it's used about 270ml since new that's a rate of around 21,000 miles per litre. Obviously somewhat lower than some of you manage... :)

In a similar vein I filled up the windscreen washer bottle at 4277 miles when the warning light came on - only to find only 1.5 litres would go in rather than the 2 litres capacity noted in the handbook - so a full washer bottle should last around 5,700 miles? (non-Xenon version)

I suspect the extra half a litre is the reserve as there wouldn't be much point warning you the washer fluid was low if you didn't have any left ... much like the fuel reserve! And 5,700 miles?! I'm lucky to get 1000 miles out of mine - in the winter I'm cleaning all the salt and muck from the road off my windscreen and in the summer it's all the flies and various insects that I've murdered.... :D

Chris

I seem to get though washer fluid like its going out of fashion. I have Xenons, so I have the mahoosive tank. A tank doesn't last a fortnight... (700 miles ish).

I am forever cleaning the windscreen though. The slightest mark irritates the pants off me!

I've now done another 2,000 miles since my posting above - and the oil level's completely static!

Unless, like mine, it pours it out over your newly laid block paved drive!!

I think all engines use oil to start with. In the early days with the octy it went through a litre in a few thousand miles, now it seems to remain static and I the 2nd litre I bought 3 1/2 years ago is still being used for topup.

8000m in 5 months not used any (that I can tell)

**Now worries that his drive is not as level as he thought**

I'm up to 1200 miles in one week of ownership now, no problems, and I checked the oil at 1000miles, and none used :)
