Xenon headlights vertical adjust

Featured Replies

I've searched the forum and didn't find any CLEAR answer for this question,

My left headlight is too low and i want to raise it a bit higher without going to the shop, and manually without a computer .. is that possible ??

I have an A5 facelift with the automatic xenon headlight system

Thanks,

No.......you need VCDS to set the xenons to learn mode. With this done you can adjust the beam easily.

I don't know that its that common for Xenons to go out of alignment without an underlying cause. So I would check the status of the level sensors and headlight aim motors before I started adjusting the lights.

Mine didn't get out of alignment but the right xenon was too low from factory, so I tried with VCDS and did not know how to do it, so sent it to the dealer and there was a special mode on his software for vertical adjustment, done in 30 seconds.

I adjusted my xenon headlights using an Allen key, no problems since however I'm not sure they self level properly, before touching anything I never noticed them doing the dance on startup.

Have I messed them up adjusting manually

I adjusted mine manually two and a bit years ago. They are fine and they will remain fine. As long as the adjustment is small, which it will be, then you will have no problems.

Maybe.....http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/xenonalignment.html

Speaking of sensors my mechanic is a massive vag nut, he had an A6 in for headlight realignment and it turned out the rear sensor was upside down so the self levelling wasnt working, fast forward a few weeks i'm in getting a service and mine are on the wrong way too!
