Tyre Scrub

Featured Replies

Hi all, just bought a set of aloys that originally came off an Audi A3 turbo, they are fitted with 205/55/16 tyres.

Fitted them to car and they look A1,so far so good.

Decided to take it for a run and thats where the problems started.

On the nearside rear arch I have the most horrendous tyre scrub,it seems that there is not enough clearance between the tyre and the arch liner.

Is it just a case of swapping the tyres for ones with a lower profile(45,s)or will I have to swap the width as well(to 195,s)?

Any help or advice would be gratefully received!!

Pretty sure standard VRS alloys are 205/45, so just need lower aspect ratio, nearer 45 the better.

Having just had to buy two new tyres :swear: because of a nail I can tell you all mine are 205/45/R16Ws.

The 55s must be a fair bit taller.

Thanks for the help guys,I,m booked in for new tyres on Sunday so I,ll report back when they,re fitted.

205/55 R16 is about 10% bigger than the size which should be fitted. :)

Well the saga of the tyres is finally over. When I went to get tyres fitted I couldn,t find my lockin wheel nut so had to pay a visit to dealer on Monday morning to order another,it arrived yesterday so tyres were fitted last night.Stuck the old tyres on Gumtree and got 70 quid back on them so I,m one happy bunny!!
