Squeeking from front DS

Featured Replies

A few months ago I had an issue with my bushes and I changed them for the powerflex models. I also changed the wishbones and ball joints as the garage suggested a joint failure as well.

Now recently I've been getting a squeeking noise from the front drivers side when I go over speed bumps. Is there any other common failures with the suspension?

Wheel bearings, drop links, springs, struts, to bearing, arb bushes etc. I'd start by pushing down on the wing and see if you can cause it to make the noise, if so it should be easy to diagnose where it's coming from. Wheel bearings tend to hum/buzz constantly more so when turning corners, ball joints tend to knock, more so when turning corners, drop links tend to knock when going over uneven surfaces or bumps, springs tend to creak, top bearings tend to grind, arb bushes could squeak I suppose.

I've have months of noisey front suspension. To cut a long story short, a change of console bushes (1st to Cupra style then to the uprated Skoda ones), plus changing the drop arm links didn't solve the issue.

In the end it was the anti-rollbar bushes that were causing the squeeking over speed bumps. It sounded like rubber being rubbed against metal if you know what I mean. I did the ARB bushes myself. Took over 2 hours but I wasn't rushing. Bushes plus the plates that hold them are less than £10 for both sides from the dealers. Takes your log-book for the chassis number to ensure you get the right sized bushes.

Well as mentioned the front and rear front console bushes have been replaced and new ball joints have been fitted. Also what I forgot to mention is I also fitted the Powerflex anti-roll bar bushes. What is still orginal are the drop links and shock systems. When I push down on that side no noise is heard and it's OK going round bends. It seems to be only speed bumps (at any speed).
