Variable servicing cost at 60000

Featured Replies

I've just had my Octavia (60 reg) serviced and been charged £348.91 which I thought was extortionate. Anyone got any comments?

During the servicing I was told that the fuel filter housing is corroded and will need replacing but not covered under warranty. I pointed out that I've got a Peugeot 406 on 285,000 miles and never come across this. Anyone any views?

I would certainly have asked to see the fuel filter housing...my guess is they knackered it somehow.

Apparently one of the mechanics has got a photo of it on his mobile. To be honest it wouldn't mean anything to me anyway. We're talking about a main dealer here.

I'd say b**lox it's not covered. Also that price is a p*$$ take too, it should be about half of that, unless somehow they've given you a super discount on a cambelt change.

If part of the engine rusts in that time, then it's a design flaw. We all know the bonnet design allows water to get in there.

Regardless of how that turns out, if you paint the top of the new fuel filter cover with a little bit of ku-rust, it stops the whole thing rusting :)

Demand to see the replacement part and the new one fitted!!

Mine was done at 62,000 miles and it cost a whopping £548.... oil, 2 filters and 4 spark plugs

I checked the plugs and they don`t look new at all

It was a lease car before I bought her and quite frankly I DO NOT trust dealer servicing one bit!!!

Watched local VW do my oil change once.... undid the plug and let it drain for about 30 seconds then screwed it back in!!

I Personally think we all get conned by dealers....

:o :o :o

How much?

The 30 seconds is kind of the point I was making in another thread. They let the oil drain out, then get the plug back in ASAP in many places, because time is money. By just waiting for the oil to drain, plus 30 seconds rather than waiting 10 minutes, they can do an extra car or two during a busy day.

My vRS is at my local Skoda dealer as we speak, they are looking at my cold starting problems.

They've diagnosed the fuel filter housing saying that is has corroded and is allowing air to mix with the fuel.

I'm currently waiting for Skoda UK to get back to me with their decision on a gesture of goodwill towards the cost.

(My Octavia is well out of warranty but their decision is based on loyalty, service history etc.)

I was quoted £228 inc. VAT (£127 for the filter housing).

The top of the housing is recessed and holds any water that enters the engine bay (driving through puddles, condensation etc.)

do these have a replacable filter element -then? I've never seen one

Yes, the top of the filter housing comes off and the fuel filter drops in.

You can see it here in the bottom left of the picture (ignore the red arrow!)...

The picture above is of mine, the one the dealer is saying is corroded and is in need of replacement...

They reckon it is leaking diesel fuel, but here is the thing, a few months ago I too noticed that the top was looking a little rusty so I gave it a quick squirt of WD40.

When they rang me to tell me that it was leaking I mentioned what I'd done and they still maintained it was leaking.

If you look at the top third of the housing it is darker, the question is if its fuel or WD40!?

Either way I'll be asking to see it for myself before handing over any cash.

Came across this vRS on Autotrader tonight (2008, CR, 43,000 miles).

Look how rusty the top of the fuel filter housing is...

Well Skoda came back with a goodwill gesture of 60% discount so it's costing me £90.

I'm also having them change the brake fluid too as they said its over due - £59.99.

They agreed to let me have the old fuel filter housing so that I can see for myself the corrosion.

Please, please let this fix my cold starting issue!

60 notes for break fluid change? DMK only charged me 45 last year.

Your right mate, I've been done!

Just seen this on another thread from Skoda's website, £45 - nationwide price promise. I'll be on the phone tomorrow morning!
