Which EVAP part is the problem?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Ever since buying my car i've had the engine management light on intermittently, the code showing was:

1089 Evap Emmision Contr Sys Incorrect Purge Flow (lower limit not reach intermittent)

The VAG specialist said they would start by replacing the N80 purge valve as it was a cheap part. All was good for a few days and then the light came back on. At the same time I am experiencing a poor idle when stopping the car, it feels really lumpy and asthough it's about to stall but never does.

My question is can the charcoal cannister cause the light to come on? And can it affect the idle?

Or am I better replacing the PCV valve first as this is know to cause idle problems and is relatively cheap and easy to fit? Can the PCV valve bring up the same error code?

This is really frustrating and I just need it sorted.

Can anyone offer any thoughts?

Thanks

Mark

The carbon canister is usually the culprit here mate they are around £90 from Skoda, there are a few diagnostic tests that need to be carried out on the purge valve but on my car the canister was the cause.

It was the Canister for me too.

Thanks, did it cause any idling issues on either of your cars or have i got a seperate problem?

Well to be honest the rev counter doesn't vary as bad as the car feels if that makes sense. I'd say around the figures you mentioned but it's quite noticeable. Hence why I thought the PCV may be at fault, might be best to replace it anyway as it's only around £30

It could be a number of things you need a good diagnostic and a good technician ;-) it wouldnt harm to fit the revised PCV tho I fitted it after mine was idling at around 1000 RPM. As for the EVAP causing rough idle you would get a slight murmor when the valve opens if the canister is blocked, try removing the breather valve from the top of the canister and bash the canister abit then hoover it out.

No I never had any bad running at all just the fault code which turned into a warning light eventually. I would replace the PCV first if you're strapped for cash and the canister too if you can afford it.

Can 100% garauntee its the charcoal canister same thing happened to us, previous shonky owner had been ramming the fuel in, when you fill the car up and it clicks off..... then it clicks for a fecking reason lol, DO NOT OVERFILL!! i always stop at the first click.

Thankfully replaced under warranty after a little pleading.

I'm also getting the intermittent warning light!

Struggling to find part numbers for the PVC or Canister though - can someone point me in the right direction? How straight forward is replacement?
